stpboy Vegas Trip Report

From what I can remember of my Vegas trip....

After arriving in Detroit with JohnnieH, Mark and Mario we quickly got into the beers that we had picked up at the duty free (2 cases of cans for $35/USD) and just as quickly got into a game of flipaments. I owned that game.

Up $8.00

I do recall seeing something along the way that just may have been a bad omen. Please see my avatar, yes this tale does have some foreshadowing....

We decided to play a tournament at the Detroit Casino. I think it was about $80 to enter. I donked off my chips when I raised from the button and was called by KJc. Flop came K 2c 4c. Dude checked and I bet enough to commit myself with my A5off. Dude insta pushes and I donkishly call. I end up getting trashed on non-free beers and get bent over twice in the cash games. Once when I flop a set of 9's, dude turned a straight and I folded the river when it was clear that I was beat. Other time I rivered a boat after flopping trip 8's on an A 8 8 board. River was a Q to give me 8's full of Queens. Unfortunately, the 'worst' player at the table limped in with AA and had flopped the better boat.....Anyway, well played Miss.

After me muttering something about it, 'being time for sleeping' we hit the hay sometime after midnight just to wake up 3 hours later to drive across the street to the park and fly. Now my flight didnt leave untill just after 8am however for some reason I thought it would be a good idea to drive with the boys. I ended up sitting by myself for four hours waiting for my flight to leave. Jeff, Mark, Mario and JohnnieH all were flying Spirit Air where I happened to be flying Northwest, the Northwest Terminal out of Detroit is a good ten minute drive away. I was able to get a shuttle and somehow stay awake drinking $6.00 Starbucks. Yes, I miss Tim Hortons already.

I flew in a packed 757 from Detroit to Las Vegas. I was lucky enough to have an aisle seat and even luckier to have the two seats beside me be vacant. A woman sitting behind me asked if she could move up to the window seat and after being alone for the past 4-5 hours I was more then happy to have her join me. She was a Michigan native and was struggling with the current economy as she was employed by one of the big three. Anyway, nice lady for sure.

I arrived in Vegas sometime after 10am and met up with both Blondfish and Westside8. I felt bad that they had waited an hour for me at the airport but hey, that’s what friends are for. We shuttle to Harrahs and IP and I find my way to the room where the man-love begins. I hug my compadres Mark, Mario, JohnnieH and Jeff…it’s nice to see friendly familiar faces and to not have to think about travelling for the next 4-5 days. I join my friends in a “CHEERS!” to Vegas and drown a cold one.

That night we play at Harrah’s and I blow through another $400.00 whilst drinking with DrTyore Mark. A funny at the table was when I had to apologize for Mark’s behavior as the floor person was on their way over at the request of the Iranian woman dealer. Mark had thrown out several f-bombs throughout the night, without penalty, however when he decides to comment on the fact that another player was driving an SUV by saying, “sorry that you have a small penis” the dealer flipped out and instantly called over the floor. Mark was able to stay after some pleading and apologizing on my part however he did make the wise decision to switch tables…..
I walked up to bed after hitting a few slots on the way. Mark was the only one of us remaining awake as I left him in the poker room. I get to the room to find JohnnieH and Mario snuggling quietly on the bed. Time for sleeping…..

Next day we awake and I decide that I am going to take it easy on the booze. I travel around with Mario and JohnnieH as Mark was feeling spent from yesterday and didn’t get out of bed until dark. Mark finally decides to get out of bed and I believe this is the first night that we find Bill’s Casino full ‘o’ donks.
We play there for a bit and decide that we’ll have to come back tomorrow to play the aces cracked promo. $100.00 for aces cracked and $50.00 for Kings. It was a $1 NL Hold Em’ game, not $1/$2 just $1. Woot! I think I broke even today and perhaps may even won some money….Is there a correlation between being sober and not losing money?

Still down: $950

We play at Bills the next day at 11am. I get my Kings cracked and walk away from the table up $100.00. What a joke this poker was. Everyone limps and just hopes to hit 2 pair or better, the easiest game I have even played in. We were trying to collude in this game with the entire table so that people would know when someone had aces or Kings. Obviously the object was to keep the pot between $10 and less then $30 to make it profitable for the winner. We ended up coming up with the comment, “you’ve got a hot wife” to signify whether you had Aces or Kings. You know, try to goat the guy into calling you. Anyway, it worked for the rest of the trip. We ended up playing at Bills almost everyday. Small poker room, good drink selection, friendly dealers. We met a couple of interesting people there, one of the JAGS that are defending one of the 9-11 scum bags sat to my right on one of the days. That was kinda cool, other then the fact that he was a spitter. I had to move my drink to my left several times….hate that.

Still Down: $750
Up: Take a guess….

Now really, the nights are blurring together. I played the Venetian tournament on day 3 or 4 and was the chipleader at my table at the first break. I had more then doubled up however after the break I went completely card dead and actually thought the blind schedule was a bit to aggressive. I think they missed a level somewhere. I went out when folded to me in the SB I pushed with 89h only to get called by 10Q.

Still Down: A Grand

The remainder of the trip consisted of mostly Mark and I walking the strip, conversing about which sporting event has the best defense-smallest net, worst offense-biggest net, winning $150.00 on videopoker (hit quad deuces while playing deuces wild) and watching old men fall off escalators into a pool of their own blood. I think we were also still waiting for our Gingerale and loaf of bread to come....lol

I think all in all I played at Harrahs, Bills, Monte Carlo, Venetian, Binions, and Golden Nugget. In the end I spent about $1350USD. To me, it was money well spent.

    Wasn't me......
  • We didn't actually see the old dude fall.. he was outside the cafe in our hotel, at the bottom of the escalator, with a gash probably 1/2way up his calf, and a lot of blood

    Mark
  • Good trip report, bad run of cards.

    Still nothing better than Vegas!!!!
    Happy Belated B-Day.

That must have been a high blood alcohol level! ;) I remember you, westside8, compuease and Itsame playing at the Venetian on Day 2, Wednesday. It was a day with a lot of pleasant distractions for me at the Venetian: chatting with forumers between hands, playing against 3 satellite queens who must have been too distracting, pretty AND too good for the men since they won multiple satellites during the week; getting up in the middle of a satellite a couple of times to follow the most beautiful waitress into the cash game room, staring at the 2nd chipleader to get a read but the only read I got was how cute his blonde girlfriend was behind him.

In my last & 7th satellite for the day, a player had to sit out for one orbit as the penalty for flashing one card during a hand! After I finished 10th and 7th in my final two satellites, two of the satellite queens tried to lure me to the next satellite but I stopped playing and railed compuease as he made it to the final 12 of the 7 PM tournament. I was starving to death, but the other forumers were still full from the Bellagio buffet, so only westside8 and I had a delicious meal at the Noodle Asia restaurant.

Thanks for the report. Who else is posting their Vegas trip report?

  • I posted pics. I'm still ahead. A picture is worth a thousand words. Yadda yadda. Pics or it didn't happen. I never saw you in Vegas...
  • I neglected to take a single picture with my camera, but as haddon is my witness, I was in Las Vegas! :) Or was playing against Heidi, Kim, Monique, Mindy, Jose Canseco and Tommy Vu (Venetian Points Champion!) all just a dream....
