  • He practiced by folding AA preflop during the first four levels. I heard from a guy who was railing him. Swear it's true. Think he got the idea from PokerJah . . .
  • AA pre fl .. come on - that must of been some strong stuff in his pipe
  • He is a superuser obv

    ftw!
  • He must be a cyborg who had the hole-card cameras feeding straight to his brain.

That was a seriously good fold.

There is a fold (by another guy) fairly early in the WSOP where a guy laid down JJ after hitting a full house and the other guy had KK for a bigger boat. Unreal.

The raise on the turn gave it away. He is playing a classic style of smashing the nuts to make it look like he has air. If he just calls he basically gives his hand away but this way he knows he is able to get a little bit more value with the last card to come.

The only problem was he didn't think that Schwartz could lay down his flush (as pointed out above by yourself).

I asked a really good cash game player about that one time (why would you re-raise with the nuts?) He said it defines your opponents hand better which allows you to make more money.

Here is a good example (from an actual game 5-10NL). Player A has KQ player be has QX...flop comes KQQ. Player A checks, player B bets, player A then re-raises. Now most people in this situation would slow play heads up because they have the nuts but in this situation:

    1. If you call the flop player A puts you on a hand and the action will probably get shut down on the turn anyways

    2. By any off chance player B has a K or Q he is calling your bet and you are able to define his range and with this situation because he has a Q he is not folding figuring "what are the probabilities of you having a Q or you raising with a Q?

Long story short, they got all the money in on the turn and player B was stunned.
  • How did Phillips lay down his AK against Demidov's AQ on the flop? Amazing fold. How did he know the Q was coming on the turn? :fish:
  • haha..Moose..I just watched that hand last night....I was wondering how Phillips let him get himself that deep with AK with such aggression on the other side..

obviously he wanted to move up the pay scale; that would be a very hard fold.
  • Demidov has alittle smurk when the turn comes a heart, I'm assuming he probably saw that.
  • i just watched it again there - and if you factor in the added pressure on schwartz that a few million a gonig to see that hand .. it makes the fold all the more impressive
