Tournaments within Canada are best for most Canadians because of the 30% withholding tax/rake in the US, but for those who want to combine a vacation to the US with cash games or satellites, below are some options.
- WPT LA Poker Classic, January 22 to February 26, 2009: $335 events (including February 16) and satellites to the $10,000 WPT event. California is supposedly the busiest place for poker, with Commerce Casino alone having 243 tables.
Update: Foreign winners will be subject to an additional 9.3% California State tax withholding. Now that I know this, I won't play any California tournaments.
- February in Las Vegas: Caesars Palace Mega Stack Series (Feb. 1-26) and Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza (Feb. 2-25): if I go, I would play the +EV satellites at the Venetian including the $275 super satellite on Feb. 22, but will probably avoid the taxable tournaments.
- The Wynn Classic, February 25 to March 19: many $330 events and +EV satellites up to the $10,200 championship.
- WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star, March 15-20: Bicycle Casino, California. 9.3% extra withholding.
- April in Las Vegas: Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza, WSOP Circuit Event at Caesars Palace (April 12 to 29), and $25,500 WPT World Championship (April 18-25).
- Summer in Las Vegas: WSOP, WPT Bellagio, Mega/Deep Stack, Binion's Poker Classic.

It coincides with the Venetian Deepstack series, and the 25K Bellagio event.
A couple of friends and I are looking at the WSOP at Caesars in April. It starts Easter Monday 12th until the 29th. I am more than likely going to the begining of this series.
Unfortunately thats from Jan 8-11
if you are going to plan a trip to Vegas, this has got to be the best week of the year to visit. Too bad I will be in Asia.
I guess that means I might be able to get sloppy 22nds.
Some really cheap flights and hotels at that time, so if anyone is planning on going, let know, and we'll see about a drink.
There is a $235 Valentines Day Couples Tournament on February 14 with 8,500 chips, and the partners will alternate every 25 minutes. The $1,060 Mega Stack Championship will begin on February 24, with 30,000 chips and 60 minute rounds. The best game to play in January will probably be Harrah's cash games because of its new promotions, where you can earn from $31/day to over $1,600 for the month if you manage to play 125 hours. You can get up to $599 in rakeback, but you have to come back the following month to collect it.
So that means you're going to be playing against a table-full of grinders. Thanks but no thanks...I rather sit at a table full of tourist without these extra incentives.
Did you play when you were at Harrahs? Last time I played there it was a grind by itself. Pretty tight, only 1 1/2 table, 2x when it got busy, and that was the highest NL game spread.
Last time I played there I took down their $120 11am tournament!
6 people.
lol......curious what 1st paid? Guess you didn't have to worry about withholding tax.
