  • There's a bonus-whoring regime to take...

If you play 1 hour of poker between the hours of 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. at Harrah's, they'll give you a coupon for 10% on top of your next buy-in (max $30). I did this each day, and found the competition to be a little tougher as it was all grinders and locals, but you can post and fold for less than $30 - make sure you get your Harrah's card.

After that, I usually went to "Bill's Gambling Saloon", from 11 a.m. --> 2p.m. they have an "aces and kings cracked" promo where you will get $100 & $50 respectively for losing with them - best part, just come up with a code for your table to let them know you've got AA / KK so that you can get the minimum $10 required - we used "I have a hot wife". Also, it's a single blind setup, where it's $1.

As for games, MGM was apparently quite juicy, and the $20 daily 9:00 tourneys at Excalibur were supposed to be stupidly soft.

Mark you forgot Treasure Island. They only had a few tables running, but we ran over the table in a couple of hours. Totally easy money......

Seriously it's really about table selection. If you don't fell comfortable, request a change. My toughest table was at Ceasar's but that's where I made the most profit.
  • C'mon man....supposed to be 'I have a hot hooker...and lots of blow'......in my hotel room.

Yeah just get really drunk and obnoxious, straddle every hand until everyone gets fed up and leaves.
  • Read http://www.pokerforum.ca/f7/best-places-play-las-vegas-17733/#post169492 and Card Player's Casinos Offer Promotions and Freerolls. If I hadn't determined that satellites had the best EV-variance tradeoff for me, this is what I would have done in Las Vegas.

    8-9 AM: Harrah's for 10% bonus coupon.
9-11 AM: Imperial Palace for the AA/KK Cracked promotion and free cookies.
11 AM - 2 PM: play $1 NL at Bill's Poker Room for the AA/KK Cracked Promotion.

    - Use the CardPlayer coupon to get $10 free at Golden Nugget everyday. I bought in for the minimum $100 on November 16, then cashed out $316 1/2 hour later since I was supposed to meet westside8 at Venetian. You are supposed to be limited to one coupon every 24 hours, but somebody in my table at Binion's was multi-tabling and kept going back and forth to Golden Nugget with the coupon!

6-9 PM (Monday-Friday): Harrah's for $100 AA Cracked promotion; buy in for the maximum $300 and use the coupon to get a $30 bonus.

All other times: try MGM Grand.
Hardest to make money: Venetian, Caesars Palace & Binion's.

As for SNGs, MGM and Mirage are supposed to have them so hopefully you or somebody else who has played them will post a report. The WPT event at Bellagio starts on December 14, so the satellite SNGs will probably start by November 28.

This was my most profitable room this trip.
I think this has to do with the skill level of
player here. Generally, people at the V
are good but not great. They play decent
    but make many mistakes.

Compare this with a room such as the Imperial
Palace. The average skill level in the IP is lower,
but the variance is much higher. My profit rate
at IP was similar to the V, but I was up and down
all night playing against weak players who got
lucky to take my money then would give it back.
Much less volatility at the V.

There were a lot of tournament players at the
Venetian for the deep stack. They would sit
at the cash tables waiting for their next tournament
or satellite to start. They made predictable plays
that tournament players often make but tend to
get them in trouble at the cash tables. The
$2/5 game at the V was probably the most profitable
$2/5 game anywhere in Vegas, because of these
    tournament players.

Do you still like this schedule? I assume you can use your 10% coupon from the morning session at the evening session on the same day?
  • See allvegaspoker.com for the changes in Harrah's promotions. I think the evening promotion is gone, so you just go back the following morning to repeat the promo and exploit the nits again.

If you have time, you can use a bunch of Match Play coupons and WIN cards for almost free money. This is what Stinky Fingers and I did at Binion's when we had to wait for our room, and by the time it was ready, our entire stay was paid for! If you are going to this Sunday's rake-free satellite, I can look for the money coupons we didn't have time to use.

no, can't make it on Sunday; I played at the 2/2/5 'home' game on Tuesday in Brampton (there was a rumour you might show up). Don't know much about match play cards; I assume this relates to blackjack, etc. I will probably take advantage of the Harrah's promo a couple times but I'm not too keen on waiting up for 8am for $30. I rather spend more time playing in the late evening when the pokerrooms are busy. Hopefully there will be some new promos in March.
  • was reading on allvegaspoker this morning that apparently they have changed the 10% bonus coupon now to $10/hr for 9-12 each morning. So instead of playing for one hour to make a potential bonus of $30, only making a bonus of $10/hr.
  • That sucks..but even back when it was $30 for 1 hour, it wasn't exactly worth it because you were playing with TAG grinders with maybe 1 or 2 fishes mixed in with the table. You can get much better table selection elsewhere IMO.

exactly, most of these promos are frequented by locals. Who gets up at these godly hours anyways. I'm on vacation!
  • It would have been a no-brainer for me to get paid $30 for playing one hour against exploitable nits. Even if the 9 best players in the world are in my table instead of the weak-tight locals, I would simply fold my blinds, drink an energy drink for free, earn $21 for one hour every single day, then walk over to IP to get my AA/KK cracked from 9-11 AM and eat the free delicious cookies. After 365 days of doing this I would have had over $10K just from Harrah's - and a heart attack! :D

Or get AA/KK cracked 5 times within and orbit and drop 2 buy-ins...ove me the variance.

Vegas 1/2 -- every table I've ever seen is beatable, no need to select
Agreed that all (most) are quite beatable but some are just much more profitable... I've played 1/2 at most of the strip casinos and some off strip over the past few years and theres definitley a huge difference. Top of the list in the past few months (from my perspective being an ol nit) would be MGM, IP, Harrahs.... You don't want to be at a table with 9 others like myself. None of us would be able to beat the rake.... lol..
  • I'd rather be in a table full of drunken maniacs who "you can't read and don't respect your raises", but as Ed Miller wrote, the weak-tight games commonly found in Las Vegas is the second most profitable game. Excluding compuease, nits tip the quality of their hand too early and allow themselves to get blown out of big pots too frequently.

  • the poker rooms I will likely check out are as follows: MGM, IP, Harrahs, Wynn, V, PH (because I'm staying there a few nights) and Ceasars. Any that I'm missing that are worth a visit? how about some of the smaller rooms?
  • Well if you get dowtown, check out GN and Binions, don't mean they are the easiest games, but at play for an hour. Also if you haven't been before, gotta see Bellagio..

oh, and play the Excalibur $20. 9am tourney if you are an early riser... Great donkfest... Just to say you played the electro tables.
  • Hard Rock Cafe, Caesars, Wynn, Venetian, Bellagio and Binion's all have nice poker rooms to look at, but are not the best to grind out a session. Caesars has increased their rake to $6 with no great promotions for tourists, so I won't ever play a cash game there again (like Sucks-calibur). Binion's freeroll is good for local grinders, but GN would be a better place to play downtown for tourists.

    Couldn't beat it huh? :)
  • There is a super user account at Sucks-calibur with an incredible nionio-like win rate, with an alias of compuease. ;)
