More luck: NLHE or Razz

Which game is more influenced by luck?

We've got our Razz game coming up in our league. Some are arguing that Razz isn't real poker. Some love it. How about you?

NLH is definitely influenced more by luck. Razz can be a frustrating game (starting with A-2-3-4 and then going 4-3-2), but a lot of the time it is very obvious who shoukl be betting.

It is also a limit game, so until the end of the tournament you have a chance to fold on every street - whereas in No Limit you can have all of you money in pre-flop and hope that the hand holds up.

There are a lot of players that think that anything but NLHE isn't "Real Poker". Which is hilarious because a lot of the other games were being played before Hold 'Em was invented.

Some players don't like playing Limit games - it becomes much more of a mathematical game, and takes some of their favorite tools out the arsenal (Bet sizing, etc).

I would also think that some do not like playing Razz because they don't understand it.

As far as my preferences go, I like Razz. It's probably my #3 favorite in the HORSE lineup

My order would be: Omaha Hi-Lo
    7 Card Stud Hi-Lo
    Razz
    Hold Em
    7 Card Stud
  • I enjoy RAZZ.....but the only time I seem to play it is in HORSE tourneys.....it's definately not mainstream. However, it is a skill game for sure.

Still the best odds for winning a WSOP bracelet.......I think the $1500 Razz always attracts the least participants.

Those people have a very solid argument, imo. It does not take into account suits nor poker hands (note that this distinguishes it from 2-7 lowball games). If someone asked you to define 'poker', what would be the necessary characteristics of your answer?
It would be entirely accurate to describe it as simply "a card game with the same betting structure as seven card stud poker."

I still enjoy it a great deal, however.
  • Interesting post...the card game razz...
