Ev

I found an EV summary for every hand in every position (based on pokerroom's accumulated stats) at the following link:

http://www.pokerroom.com/games/evstats/positionStats.php?players=10

My question is this. Does the EV take into account that you already have half a bet in the pot when you are the small blind, and a full bet when you are a big blind, because these stats don't seem to confirm that.

For example: The EV of 77 in the small blind on this website is -0.06 big bets, which seems to tell me that if I were to play this hand every time from the small blind i would only lose -0.06 big bets each time, whereas if I were to fold the small blind whenever I got 77 I would averaging -0.25 big bets.

Is my logic correct here? Does this mean that any hand with a EV of > -0.25 is statistically worthwhile to play?

I would appreciate any help on this.

  • You are correct that if you blindly played 77 in the SB then you would expect to lose less in the longrun than if you just folded.

What you may be missing is that the chart does not take situations in account. You wouldnt want to play your 77 in the SB if you were against a player who only limped with Aces and folded every other hand (extreme example I know).

Starting hands in HE are based on the type of game you are playing.. tight loose tricky or straightforward all call for a different set of hands that become 'playable'.
