WPT Final Table Thursday 4 PM

Is anybody else going to watch the WPT NAPC final table television taping this Thursday starting around 4 PM? Free tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis. In the past two years, a collectible chip was given out.

After playing the Casino Brantford $100 tournament (with moose or zunni74?) tomorrow, I will drive to Fallsview Casino. With the juicy cash games going on at the poker room during the very long final table, I will probably book a motel room for the night for only $30.

  • I'll be there for sure!!!
I have class till 3 though, so probably won't make it till almost 4, hopefullly I'll still get in, from what I heard in previous years a lot of people go in/out and there was a demand to fill seats last time.
Do you think it will be busy, or what time do you think we need to get 'tickets' by?
  • I plan to arrive early so that I'll be sure to get a seat. Hope to see you there...and gl at Brantford.

I know this isn't really related to the topic of the thread, but I was wondering if anyone knew what the casino does with the actual tournament chips they have used during the tournament?...I've always been curious to know lol
  • Here are the official chip counts for tomorrow's televised WPT final table, which is scheduled to start here at the Fallsview Casino at 4:00 pm ET.

    Seat 1 - Kathy Liebert - 1,620,000 (Las Vegas)
Seat 2 - Gavin Smith - 2,815,000 (former taxi driver from Guelph)
    Seat 3 - Marc "myst" Karam - 1,850,000 (Ottawa)
    Seat 4 - Glen Witmer - 3,710,000 (Waterloo)
    Seat 5 - James Trenholm - 1,365,000 (?)
Seat 6 - Ryan "eatschips" Fisler - 2,285,000 (Waterloo online pro)

Gavin Smith goes for his second WPT title, and his first major poker victory on his home turf (Canada). Meanwhile, Kathy Liebert is making her fifth WPT final table appearance, and hoping to become the first female to win an open WPT title. And don't forget Marc Karam, who final tabled this event two years ago and has cashed every time this event has been held.
While there are five Canadians and Kathy Liebert, I am personally rooting for Glen, who is the chip leader. Needless to say, both Glen and Ryan are from Waterloo where they drink the poker-fortified water. :)

I first met the Glen the gentleman at Casino Brantford last year. While playing at a tournament on October 2, I talked to him about the WPT satellites. He had no idea that the $1240 satellites had started running daily at Fallsview Casino, so as soon as he and his wife busted out, they went to Fallsview. After I was eliminated from the final table, I also drove to Fallsview where I witnessed him winning the satellite.

He wasn't even sure if he was going to play or sell his main event voucher as there was a family health issue. His family may be unable to be with him tomorrow, but hopefully people from K-W will come out and support him. He sought my advice on Day 3, so I will once again put on my Royal Cup captain's hat tomorrow and root him to the $1,224,852 victory.

I have played with Glen many times, he is..... a cannon. I wish him all the best!

He must have had some pretty good cards to get that far!
  • If I show up to Fallsview around 7pm - is there any chance I'll be able to watch some FT action - or does an event like this always sell out?
And speaking of sell out - what is the cost of tickets to watch?
If there's any chance of getting in I'll try - I only live about 20 minutes away.
  • My wife and I got there around 7:15, waited around in the overflow for a bit, got into the taping at about 8:30ish, right after Ryan Fisler was eliminated 4th. Got to see Kathy Liebert knocked out - nice.
Because of babysitting issues, we left after about an hour of heads up action between Gavin Smith and Glen Witmer.
Weird story - shortly after sitting down my wife looked across the room and thought she recognized the man sitting beside Glen Witmer's wife. I looked and, sure enough, it was a friend of mine that I used to go to church with when I lived in KW!! And here was his dad playing for over a million bucks! Very cool. It was fun to be a part of the Witmer cheering section, basically the whole room was rooting for Gavin (natural since he was the big name pro).

Were you one of the guys giving him advice during the first break in heads up play? Hope it works, because he was getting run over by Smith.
  • Congratulations to Glen, the WPT 2008 North American Poker Champion! :wav: After Gavin eliminated the shortest stack, underdog Glen took out all the four remaining professionals within three blind levels! Ship the WPT bracelet, Fallsview NAPC gold bracelet, waterfall trophy, U$25,000 WPT World Championship entry, and last but not least, the tax-free $1,224,852 casino cheque to Glen!
