Books for my birthday

So my wife asks me what I really, really want for my birthday and I stupidly respond (without thinking) "Poker Books!" :). DOH! I probably could've asked for something a little more erotic, but in my defense, she wasn't naked :( when she asked me so the only thing on my mind was poker.

Anyway, I just ordered these books:

- "Killer Poker By The Numbers" Tony Guerrera - "Tournament Killer Poker By The Numbers" Tony Guerrera (pre order)
- "Sit 'n Go Strategy: Expert Advice for Beating One-Table Poker Tournaments" Collin Moshman- "Harrington on Cash Games: Volume I: How to Play No-Limit Hold 'em Cash Games" Dan Harrington- "Harrington on Cash Games: Volume II: How to Play No-Limit Hold 'em Cash Games" Dan Harrington

Has anyone read any of them?

  • Moshman was excellent.

I didnt get much out of the Harrington cash series. I found greater value in videos @ CR for online cash.
  • I have recently ordered the harrington books and the moshman book from amazon. They are expected next week. Apparently pocket 5's raves about the moshman book and there is a woman there, Jennifear who is one of the best STT coaches. Google it if your interested in that she's affordable and I"m thinking of booking a session with her.
  • Honestly, get a subscription to an online training site instead. I couldn't even finish HOH cash game vol 1, it was pretty bad.

Actually, I just got a free 6 month membership at Stoxpoker and, since they've recently joined forces with CR, I think I have access to the CR videos. Any in particular you would recommend?

    Thanks.
  • The sbrugby videos were really helpful. Caby videos as well - but some of them are relatively old at this point. Both are 6 max.

Townsend also had decent HU vids.
  • No you don't get access to cardrunners video, you can get it for cheaper though. They will be releasing 10 free CR videos to stox members soon, if it hasn't already happened.

CTS videos are by far the best videos available

why not just do the 2+2 free five book offer instead? you can get both of the Harrington cash books plus three others for free. Just play one hand at 0.10/0.25 and the books are yours!
  • Did you not try and get the bonus everest offers. Deposit $50 get a $200 bonus plus the books? I'm trying to find out how quick that bonus releases prior to trying it.

There are other books on the A list I'd prefer for free since the cost is higher than the harrington books. The B list offers not much of interest except as a library builder.

I've enjoyed GreenPlastic's videos as well, some of their older tourney videos are pretty good as well.

I started the Everest bonus, realized it was going to take a while and took out my small profit and moved on. Easier to re-register with a different mailing address.

    hehe
    thanks for the advise
i can drop that from my TBL
i also heard leatherass9 saying that the book would help if player from 50NL and under, and he does not see how the book would help players that playing 50NL and up.
  • I agree with that comment completely. The books will teach you how to play NL cash games. But it will not take you to the next level.
