Depending on where you are, there are some 'tours' that run in various cities.

You might want to contact the guys who run The Ontario Poker Tour:

  • Hey welcome,

This is a pretty regular question...try using the search feature, but I believe you need to get permission from the OLG and I vaguely recall hearing that this permit is expensive.

Graham, I would LOVE to see this question answered properly and then stickied...could you do that?
  • There are ways around it. I know of one bar that offers a "free" entry into a poker tournament with every $55.00 buffet purchased. They then offer gift certificates for the bar as "prizes". It seems to circumvent the rules about poker.

I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me, that unless the bar normally has a $55 buffet, that any competent crown attorney could get a conviction if they really wanted to.

And just for giggles... I was informed the other day by a few players that frequent a certain local tourney, at a certain local establishment, that the owners approached the police to ask if their tourney violated any laws and were told, as long as they had the tourney on the banquet side, away from the bar side, and stuck to tourneys... no cash games... they were OK. WTF??!!?? Nice to see a little consistency!!
