I loved this hand!

This hand game me a huge thrill, and I loved it.

First I just want to say that I played this hand pre-flop because I wanted to give the image to some of the tighter players that I was loose. Every once in a while when I am BB I will come in with something somewhat crappy and sometimes lose on purpose, if it doesn't cost too much.

Either way, I have my reasons and most of the people in the current pot were LAG. So, when I saw the flop I got fairly excited. I was afraid of a full house, A's full of 2's. I figured they both had A's and thought that when the other dude raised 1.55 all-in he hit a full house. Then I thought about it for a bit and realized I saw this guy call and raise/re-raise with small pairs all the way to the river to lose.

So, when the other guy simply called, I decided I was probably very close to the best hand already and if a K or a 2 came up, I would for sure have the best hand. I convinced myself that based on how both players were playing, neither had 2's.

Anyway, what do you think about this hand? My heart was pumping.

EDIT: Now that I think of it, either of them could have eaisly had a full house. I could see a raise pre-flop with A-2 from these guys, and a call pre-flop with A-2 as well. I would have been in some trouble there! I guess I was just relying on chance, and the pot size seemed decent enough to call until I hit the full house.

  • ... wtf?

    when you said that :

Anyway, what do you think about this hand? My heart was pumping.

I said to myself these exact words :

"This guy is a psycho... dangerous to be around".

I can't put that in any other words.

    edit:
    I also have to ask...
do you sometimes masturbate violently while playing poker?

Not while playing poker. Just while replying to posts on these boards.
  • Your first thought on this flop is how to get all your chips in the middle against someone with Ax. The only hands beating you are AA and A2. These are both very unlikely. So the only turn cards that would be bad are a A or somebody hitting a two outer to turn their PP into a bigger boat.

Therefore I agree with your play up until the turn. This is now the time to get it all in. A check raise may be risky but if these players are as LAG as you suggest, then a bet is very likely so I would have put it all in over top of any bet. Otherwise, you might want to lead out with a smallish bet on the turn and hope for a raise where you can put the rest in.

I would also recommend that you do not reveal the showdown information in your hand history until after it has been commented upon. We like to guess what the others had and the process of that guessing and what to do about it is really the meat of good poker advice.
  • I like the fact that you bet the flop. Getting the re-raise and call on the flop after you raised is definitely reassuring.

If another ace came of the turn, could you get away from the hand (assuming stack sizes were not an issue)? Its tough to play these kind of hands when you get counterfeited.

When you do hand reading, you need to not only assign a range of hands, but also the likelyhood of each type of hand.

So for this example, you can see 3 dueces and 1 ace. That means there are 3 aces and 1 deuce out there. This makes the likelyhood of someone having A2 very low and someone having AA very low as well strictly mathematically speaking. So at that point, I would be thinking there is no way I'm am getting away from this hand except if an A appears. And when you decide this sort of thing, the only thing you should be concentrating on is getting your money and his money in the middle as fast as possible and in most circumstances that's either the flop or the turn unless a player is so far behind you he needs a river card for a chance to make second best hand and pay you.

Yeah, when looking at this again, I should have bet the turn for sure, especially with a re-raise on the flop. I think I was just scared at the amount they raised with.

I will also try to refrain from putting the showdown information next time. Thanks for the advice!!

It would have been very hard to play if an A came up. I'm good at folding when I know I am probably beat.

At that point I would have assumed at least one of the other two had an A. If they both just checked the turn after the A came up on the turn, I probably would have put in a medium raise on the river to see if they called. If they bet on the turn, I likely would have folded. However, there was only 59 cents left to call, so in this case i probably would have called and hoped for the best. It would be just as likely for someone to have another 2 with trips tied.
