Worse Player Telling You How Bad You Play

Anyone else find it insanely annoying when players much less successful than you insist on coaching you or telling you how badly you played a hand that you ended up winning? Seriously, this guy was basically calling me a fish without saying it, even though I'm sure long-term I win much more than him (I've played with him many times, enough to know I'm almost always more up than he is). I made a great all-in call on his best buddy, only for him to try to lecture me. I told him to mind his business & let me play my fishy game. Of course I ended up stacking him later on too.

I'm not immune to criticism, but there's constructive criticism than there's just hating. He was probably just upset I made a great all-in call on his best buddy that he'd probably never be able to make.

  • The last time I was in Vegas this happened to me.

I was at the Venetian in a tournament in the BB. Player min-raised UTG and I called with a suited Ace rag. I proceed to flop the nuts and stack the guy who had AK.

He then berates me at the table for not respecting the Gap theory.

    wat?
  • I sort of love it, I want to hear all their theories on how to play everything...as long as they're wrong.

(the one exception is forum games...it pisses me off when forumers either pussy-foot around me when I fuck up...OR refuse to listen/think to save their pride.

Honestly, why the hell even bother reading the forum and going to the games?)
  • Yeah. It is always funny when you beat someone and they complain about it and how you played the hand so wrong. Its like they already had this script in their head of how exactly the hand was going to play out.
  • the best revenge is taking his/her money; enough said. Blondefish has a nice story on this subject.
  • here's a tip: a good player will never tell you you are a bad player. (unless it is me)

  • There are many phases in the reaction to such a scenario. They start at berate back, followed by ignoring. Then comes the phase where you ask the donkey why he wants you to play better so he wins less.

But the most productive phase is where you play the submissive and ask where you are going wrong. Lots of donkeys will tell you exactly how they play and will actually play that way against you.

In short, their "advice" becomes your read. If there was ever a time where youi need to put your ego in check, this is it.
