Intro and Advice !!
Hello All,
I am leaving the UK shortly and taking up a position in SW Calgary and am looking for advice on best card room in that area. Had a quick look online and have found about 5 casinos with card rooms. Would be looking for Hold em tourneys from $20 - $200 rebuys or freerolls.(dependant on bankroll and salary!!) Or cash games up to $200 buy ins.
Been playing online for about 7 years mainly Pokerstars, live in Casino tourneys for 3yrs.
Very good site by the way!! Looking to integrate into the Canadian way of poker (and maybe wina few bucks and make a few buddies on the way!)
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Regards

Good luck, and welcome again.

Welcome to the Board.....good to have another in Alberta.
Calgary is where I began my poker career......errr...expense. Here is my brief synopsis on the poker rooms there.....keep in mind I now only visit them sparingly as I live in Edmonton:
Cash Casino (Blackfoot Tr...close to downtown)
Best for daily tourney's.....I think they have a noon and 7pm daily <$100
Cash, mostly 1-2 or 2-5 NL Holdem
10 or so tables
Casino Calgary (Off Hwy 1 NE Calgary)
Couple tourney's weekly (think Wednesday & Sunday) <$100
Cash 1-2 NL & 4-8 Limit mostly
Occasional DC game (limit and no-limit/pot-limit)
Best action casino for NL....IMHO
Stampede Casino (downtown)
Built new room....haven't been there
Old room was busy only during peaks....but should be worth a look
Deerfoot Casino (SE Calgary, just off Deerfoot)
Friday $100.00 is the only one I know for sure
Cash is all 1-2, 2-5 or 5-10 NL holdem
Only went here for big tourneys, so not sure how busy it normally is
Elbow Casino (downtown)
Last I knew, they didn't run tourneys...been awhile since I've attended though
Cash....4-8, 15-30 Limit was mostly what they ran...probably have no limit as well
Usually the biggest games in town
New Casino on Reserve (SW Calgary...Glenmore & 37 ST)
Haven't been there yet, not sure what it's called...sorry no intel
(don't even know if they have a poker room)
That should get you started. If you prefer tourneys, Blackfoot (Cash) would be the place.....kind of a dungeon, but they get great turnouts. Also run a few big tourneys every year ($770 buy-in).
If you prefer cash.....most will do the job just fine.
