Lets hope this falls through so I don't have to travel all the way to Niagara to play some poker.

  • "Usually, bingos, lotteries, casinos are seen as ways to get extras within a society," says Councilor Joe Mihevc. "But to pay for fundamental public services, this is definitely not the way to go."

The political realities of a provincial election on October 10 may very well keep the government from deciding on a new casino, says ward 19 councilor Joe Pantalone.

Are people all retarded or do they not see horse betting as gambling? Isn't it all just a proposed expansion?

Whoa, the governments original goal was to put on a pretty horse show, its not their fault that people started betting on it... and can you blame them if people want to throw their money away at an impossible to win thing like the lottery?

The goverment tries to get these things in very quietly, as they probably just don't want to risk screwing up their chances at re-election, or upset any special interest groups/lobbyists (though I don't even think we have those in Canada).

Really, they should just give up their "we don't like gambling" stance (which we know they obviously do as they run most of the casinos, lotteries, etc.) and be more like the UK Government. Come on guys, you aren't fooling anyone.

Lots of people are retarded and those people sometimes elect retarded people to represent them (and us).

Everybody does some gambling every day. Driving 5km over the speed limit is gambling. Not having home insurance is gambling. Not seeing a doctor every year is gambling.

Retarded people are unaware of risk/reward concept of gambling or even more sadly unaware of the gambles they make.

The next time some bozo says poker is bad, I'm going to fire a barrage back starting with "Do you have working smoke detectors on every floor?"
  • The story is a year old...
  • lol now I feel retarded for not noticing that.

  • The OLG has already said repeatedly that they have no desire to put a full casino in Toronto.

Basically it would be gouging from the other Casino's in Ontario, so each of the facilities would make less money.

Besides, they make more from gas taxes by making people drive.

I'm not sure that you know what "falls through" means. Did you mean "follow through"?

-1. It's the city of Toronto that doesn't want it, not the OLGC.

Maybe, but I doubt it. There's a whole market of gamblers that wouldnt' need to drive to get to the casino to gamble.

-1 if you really believe that this is why theres no toronto casino.
