Rounders Special Edition -- Pro's commentary
So I just watched the Rounders Special Edition DVD with the Pro's commentary on. Did you guys know that Phil Hellmuth won the World Series of Poker Championship Event in 1989? It's true. Phil says it on the DVD...about 200 times. In fact, I believe he gives a run down of every one of his poker accomplishments. Several times over. Then Phil talks about the books he has written. Then Phil talks about all the money he's won playing poker. Then Phil talks about the tournaments he has won that you might not already know about. Then Phil just talks......a lot.
The commentary is actually quite humourous to listen to. Mostly because Hellmuth doesn't shut his yapper. By the way, there are three other pros doing the commentary -- Johnny Chan, Chris Moneymaker, and Chris "Jesus" Ferguson. However, relative to the vocal input of Mr. Hellmuth, these guys might have well as stayed home. Phil spends half the movie discussing his own accolades and the other half kissing Johnny Chan's ass. "Hey Johnny, did you know that in the original script for Rounders, your part was written for me? It's true, but I think you did a terrific job."
Johnny Chan is funny to listen to because he laughs hysterically at the movie's occasional comedic snippets -- "He said bitch of spades and he was really referring to the queen of spades; har, har, har."
Moneymaker picks apart the movie's logistical flaws -- "Why is Grandma mad when TeddyKGB gets beat by Mike? He's still going to get paid."
Jesus doesn't really say anything and it is Hellmuth who actually prods him to contribute by asking him mundane questions, "Hey Chris Ferguson, what does YOUR girlfriend think of you playing poker for a living?"
The most interesting part of the commentary is when the pros analyse certain hands that play out, like the notorious opening sequence when Mike McD's 9's full of Aces lose to TeddyKGB's Aces full. They also discuss topics such as cheaters, bankroll considerations, and lending money.
If anything, pick this DVD up to hear Hellmuth. It's an absolute riot. The man is like a 12-year-old boy watching a movie about Santa Claus. He becomes so entrenched in the story of Mike McD that I think he actually believes that Mike is a real person. [On Worm] - "So much talent, such little discretion. It makes me sick watching this." [On Mike's final stand at KGB's] - "He is a real hero. He's so determined."
At the very least, Phil Hellmuth is the most passionate person in the game today. Let me know what you guys thought of the DVD.

I found the same thing. It seems like Phil thought the reason they were re-releasing this edition was for him, so he could do a feature length Phil Show... ;-) It's still worth picking up though. Don't even try to built in hold'em game. It's complete garbage...

i liked that hellmuth talked a lot because moneymaker and jesus barely said anything....it was kind of cool to listen to hellmuth and chan go back and forth
i didnt like the tips section because each tip was 5 sec long and you have to manually watch each one (instead of play all)....and the included game is a joke, it was over so quickly...and the opponent never tried any moves, it only ever seemed to fold
