going to VEGAS!!!

Check this....

I'm going to vegas at the end of the month.

A little history...

I'm a semi decent player. Whatever that means. But I'd like to think I can handle my own at the table. I play mostly 6-18 max sng's on stars.. for the bare min (3$) and I'm takin my bankroll to Vegas!!! (about 800$) Many of you have been, and know what kind of regular tourneys are run and so forth, Maybe I should stick to cash tables I don't know.

But I'm wondering... given said bankroll... and your previous knowledge of the vegas experience. Does anyone have any advise as to what games I should look out for to play and or avoid. I'm looking at about 30 - 40 hours on the tables play time and willing to risk it all.

Any insight would be awesome.

  • after paying for the flight and room, take your remaining 200 and plunk it down at any old 1/2 table. 20-30 minutes in some guy will bust you with 53o, go bug/rail your friends for the rest of your trip. if you go see cirque, say hi to guy for me.

    have fun!
  • definitely a -ev trip; 1/2 is probably the bare minimum you will find in Vegas. I may be wrong. As you seem to like multi table tournaments, you might want to stick to this format (vs cash games) with a smaller buy in. That way you can maximize your enjoyment over the duration of your stay. There are probably a few decent tournaments in the $50 range. Enjoy the experience in any case.
  • If you don't care about the money take a shot at the Venetian daily...7500 starting chips for 175 i believe....when in vegas its great to take shots!!!
  • Just got back from a very similar trip that your going on. Same bankroll issues. Here are a few of my observations:

    - Play cash games (limit or NL) on the weekend only. This is when all the incredibly bad tourists are out. Mon-Thur the tables are populated with grinder/pros and the games are +++ tougher.
    - Avoid Harrah's properties for cash games - they take the max $5 rake + a $1 high hand bonus. Bellagio, Mirage, Wynn only take $4 rake, and no bonus.
    - Check the structure sheets carefully for tourneys - there are many good ones (MGM, Planet Hollywood, Binions), but bad ones too (Luxor, Bally's, I.P.).
    - There are poker rooms that offer various SNG's. I didn't play in any, but many reports indicate that the Mirage and Rio have good play for the price (and the juice is clearly defined).
    - Get a player's card, and make sure to check in & out at each session. they don't tell you to do that, so that your comp points don't add up.

    Hope this helps,

  • If you only have $800 and are willing to lose it all, then you might as well play the best-value tournaments. See my previous posts about the best daily tournaments being the noon ones at The Venetian and Caesars Palace. Outside of noon, the Binion's $125 daily tournament at 8 PM was the best-value tournament last week when there were five great Series going on.

  • -$62 every night at 7PM in the Sahara.
    It is soft and awesome.

Your best bet is what Greg said.
  • Thanks for your tips rx999. Although my LV trip is scheduled for 2009, it's great to have such information before the trip. :)
