"My Bad" - is this some new form of poker language?

Maybe I am getting old or something, but what is with this term "my bad"? I was playing at Seneca over the weekend and this term seemed to be used constantly. I see it a lot on the forum as well. Is it only used in poker circles? It only seems to have become popular in the last six months. What gives?

Just another way for people to say "I'm sorry", or to take responsibility for something, without really being/doing either. It means nothing, as far as I'm concerned. Like the have a nice day from that retiree at Wal-Mart.
