Losing Streak Advice

Okay, I know we have all gone through periods where whoever you are playing can magically catch any card they want and you couldn't make a pair to save your life.

My question is what strategy do you usually employ when it happens? Do you just try and play through it? or do you take an extended break? or do you switch sites?

I was just curious.

  • normally, ill just play the best poker i can, and if i lose/get sucked out, oh well....ill just take a break so i dont tilt steam in another sng or something, just watch some tv for 30-60mins or so and then play again or whatnot. I guess im just getting out of a cold streak right now, played 4 sng's yesterday, got 1st,2nd,3rd and like 5th. but i also had 2 hands (in 2 different sng's) that i got extremly lucky, one was i had TT vs QQ and flop came TT2, turn was a queen, so i could of still lost if another Q came but it didnt thankfully :) the other one was i put a guy all in w/ AKo vs 99 .flop came 6-6-6 (im thinking its all but over(my chance to eliminate him) b/c i had him covered) turn was a 7......thinking here i only had 6 outs.....not realizing what came on the river, the 4th 6 and my ace high won (i guess it was payback from the pokergods when i had JJ vs his q9o all in and he hit running 9's to double up)....so im playing the rush right now heh
  • do you switch sites?

I think this is probably one of the more overlooked adjustments that a person can make..

Every poker site seems to have its niche as to what games are soft/tight. You may find that the softness/tightness of your current site doesn't fit well with your playing style, so a change can work out quite profitably.. Nevermind the insane amount of money you can make by bonus whoring at all of them..

    From personal experience:

UltimateBet: Tight ring games, heard good things about the MTTs
Pokerstars: Tight ring games, soft SnGs, best MTTs
Partypoker: Loose ring games, soft SnGs (high vig on $5)
The Crypto skins: Between 4pm -> 9pm ET soft ring games after that it's a rock garden
Pacific Poker: Loose everything. If you can put up with a buggy client and very loose games at all limit, play here.
    Prima: Can't really remember
  • thanks for the info on the different sites. So far I have only played at pokerstars, and I would tend to second all of your opinions about that server.

Anyone else have anything they can add about the strengths and weaknesses of the players on different servers?
