dealing with 'fishbird'

how do people deal with the annoying jerk at the local casino? should/can the casino do anything?

there's a brash young kid, who seems to be at the casino EVERY friggin time i'm there. he's loud, obnoxious and slows the game down horrendously with all his chatter and whining and antics. pretty much every hand with a showdown, he demands to see the hole cards of the mucked hands. then he ridicules the players for playing so poorly. he takes too long to make easy decisions. he shows his cards to his neighbours when he is facing big decision. he talks about previous hands endlessly. he loves to argue with the dealer about trivial things.

as far as i can tell he is an 'ok' player. i expect he makes a small living (enough to live at home and take the bus down every day) from the 5/5 game. he plays pretty tight but acts loose. i don't see him go too crazy with bluffs. think tony g on testosterone.

i know this is all part of his schtick, designed to get more action with his big hands from the 'fish'. problem is, it really slows down the game (we are talking session fees, yes). and it drives the fish away to other tables. i can't say it particularly affects my game except in the larger sense of agitating others at the table and probably making them play better poker.

i've spoken to him a couple times about poor etiquette. i've warned him he has come close to a good bitch slapping a few times. i've told him to stfu. i've insulted his uncertain parentage. nothing.

last time he was at it again. larger than life. thankfully on another table but some at our table were stopping to watch him. jesus! some of the new guys were wondering who that asshole was. funny thing was, there were 2 full tables of 5/5 and he was sitting at a table with maybe 4 or 5 people. hmmmm. methinks he is driving business away.

i've spoken to a couple of the dealers. apparently they all hate him. i asked if the supervisors have spoken to him but i don't think they have. is there anything that can be or even should be done?

i'm tempted to go over and ask the floor to do something but i'm not sure if i'd be way out of line here.

13cards, what do you say?

  • The good thing about live poker is that you can stab people in the parking lot.
  • Can you ask to be moved to another table? At least he can't multi-table.

No need to kill him.....anal rape is a good deterrent.

    * I know, I know, off-side.

Not so at Fallsview... They have a rule against this, although I don't believe it is posted anywhere.

    sorry... it was too easy!

So if I stab someone in the parking lot....but toss the knife in a forward motion towards the garbage can....who gets the pot?

Yes, but the Dealer and Floor cannot be expected to read your mind, or know your "intent", so stab away.

I thought you were talking about yourself! ;) Seriously, I think I know the guy you're talking about. When fishbird and I were in a hand together at Fallsview, I made the correct fold to his bet and he showed two pair with his garbage starting hand, then kept asking me what I folded and loudly kept wondering for a whole orbit. He was berating a player who outdrew him, who eventually moved to another table, but fishbird continued to make loud comments directed at the guy throughout the night. He antagonized a big guy who invited him to the parking lot to get stabbed, but they kissed and made up.

He puts other players on tilt, which can be good for your EV. I noticed the same thing with you in a tournament awhile ago. Almost all of the players were very quiet on the table, so when you kept talking and joking around, everybody except me remained quiet and I could see some of them were getting irritated with our chatter, which made them play even worse than usual. It is the same with "Chicken" at our table who gets irritated with normal chatter or even with somebody quietly playing Sudoku.

Unless fishbird is breaking some of the secret, unviewable rules at Fallsview, I don't think you can do much about him except try to take advantage of the effect that he is having on the other players.
