New moderator: Scottyz and other stufff...

Hey,

I've decided to give Scottyz moderator "abilities" on these forums...all forums with the exception of the "Ask Dave Scharf" section (to which only Dave and myself have mod access)

Now...let's get back to poker. 8)

On that note, Scotty, (or anyone)

If you can find a place that will allow us to have a private NL non-cash game (let's say a table of 10) then I have prizes already for the first 3-4 places.

I haven't decided if the prizes will be allocated, or if they will just be up for grabs to the winners.

ie: There are 4 prizes...1st place can have 1st pick of whatever prize they want, then 2nd chooses and so on.

I suppose we need a general census on what date/time we will be able to get at least 10 members online.

I'll play, and I'll do my best, but if I place in the top 4, I'll recirculate the prize somehow.

Scottyz isn't immune to winning stuff as a mod.

  • Count me in!

I'm feeling pretty optimistic. Against this field I predict at least a top 9 finish for myself!

    hork.
  • I know I haven't posted much here yet, but I'd be into playing in it as well. I assume that since it's only a 10-person tourney the players with the most posts will be playing? If that's the case, I have a LOT of posts to make. Better get started...
  • I'm honoured, and (as Ben Stein would say) "I shall do my best."

As for a pokerforum.ca online tournament, I'll keep looking.

I heard back from PokerStars (as I posted elsewhere) and they don't have private tournaments at this point, but seem to be planning on introducing them. At first glance it doesn't seem that PartyPoker offers any private tournaemnts at all (cash or otherwise).

Although a freeroll is ideal, are people strongly against having a cash tournament? I wouldn't mind playing for cash, but I'd rather play for real money only on a well established site where I already have a real money account. (Probably most people also feel this way.)

    ScottyZ
  • I'm not sure we'd have to restrict it to 10 players (as long as the hosting site could accommodate us), but there probably would be some condition to enter, like having minimum number of posts, or the top X posters get invited to the tournament first, or something.

I'd imagine we would still like to include newer forum members even if they have few (legitimate) posts, but exclude people who might register for this forum exclusively to enter our tournaments.

    ScottyZ
  • Cool, why does it say "Poker God" by my name now?

Does this mean I have to go to church now or something?

    ScottyZ
  • I'm honoured, and (as Ben Stein would say) "I shall do my best."

Does this mean we get to win your money??

    hork.
  • We could have that as a tournament theme maybe. :)

Or it might possibly just turn out that way... 8)

    ScottyZ
  • I'd be "down" with a cash tourny, the only reason I didn't suggest it upfront was because sometimes it takes a few days for folks to get $$ in their accounts (waiting for NetEller deposits as an example)

but I'll be happy to go with the majority...perhaps a poll is in order? :)

ps: the "poker god" is something I'm messing around with...a ranking system based on the number of posts you have.

    1-50 Here fishy fishy fishy

    51-99 Has seen rounders

100-199 Phill Hellmuth status (compliment? you decide)

    200+ poker god.

Again, just playing around for now with perhaps a new rewards system for frequent posters.

Yeah, it generally takes me 5 full business days to get cash (I use EFT from my bank account) into an online poker site, so if we do want to run a cash tournament, we should probably allow at least that much time for deposits, and if there actually turns out to be a choice of where to play (which seems doubtful to me at this point) we could try a poll.

    As for the poster rankings,
    1-50 Here fishy fishy fishy

Maybe something a little less negative would be better.

  • Congrats ScottyZ!

Also, I think if you keep the 100-199 as the Phil status, I think you will see a lot of people sign up for new accounts here when they get 99 posts :D
  • Possibly one of the worst things I've ever seen on TV: Phil Hellmuth with no shirt on.

It was like some kind of "Poker meets Fear Factor" on steroids.

    ScottyZ
  • LOL! That's just ... wrong.
  • Congrats ScottyZ.

I hope it's not a true cash game, and just a buy-in tournament. I'm afraid of you Professionals out there...(am I a fish or am I just fishing you in) :P
  • Well, even if it had to be a cash game, we could see if we can go with small stakes (whatever the minimum game is, maybe $5 or $10) if the idea is basically to play for prizes anyway. I realize that this is a pain if you don't have real money at the tournament site, so a freeroll is what we'll shoot for.

I just think that sites may be more willing to hold private tournaments for real money (since at least they get a house drop that way).

So far, the only online poker site to offer private online tournaments seems to be a site I've never heard of (great...), iPoker:

    http://www.ipoker.net/site/tournaments/private-poker-tournaments.html

On the plus side, you can completely customize the tournament choosing buy-in, type of game, re-buys (if any), and right down to the exact blind structure. Also, buy-ins could be as low as $2. They do accept Neteller (min deposit $25USD) and other deposit methods.

    ScottyZ
  • Yeah, I'd prefer a freeroll at this time. (Don't want to waste the good prizes that Sloth has lined up for this!) :)

I wonder if this iPoker site is reputable at all. If they're hooked up with Neteller, then they should at least be legit, if not stable?

    hork.
  • Please re-direct to

Online Poker Talk -> Private pokerforum.ca tournaments

for my reply, and for further discussion of this topic.

  • I want to know why we didn't have some sort of election for THE MODERATOR. Is this a dictatorship? If it is, this post will no doubt be purged and never spoken of again
  • Nah. I know you're kidding, but I'll answer it anyway.

Scotty has been very active since this forum was back at its old home...that added to the fact that he's on it more than me made it an easy decision.

The forum seems to be growing at a decent pace, at this rate, may need another mod before long! 8)
  • How about:

    0-4 Vince Van Patten
    5-19-Here Fishy, fishy
20-49-Has seen rounders, more than once.
    50-99-Kitchen Poker King
    100-199-The Nuts
    200+-Poker God
  • Is this a dictatorship?

Pretty much, but it's the admin who's the dictatator not me. But rightly so. It's his forum.

Just think of me as a figurehead of menace, a la Big Brother or Nelson Muntz.
Article Six: Although ScottyZ shall have no official power, he shall remain a figurehead of menace in the neighborhood

    Commence saturation bombing!
    0-4 Vince Van Patten

    Classic. 8) LMAO

That is excellent. I'm going to use that :)
  • I like the idea of the bottom couple of categories being less than flattering. Hopefully it will help people get posting!(of course only 'real' posts count, even if they are in opposition to ScottyZ!)
  • of course only 'real' posts count

Well, I think sloth had in mind just automatically putting that title beside people's names based on their post count. It's probably too hard to write code to determine what's a real post or not. :)

I just hope that VVP doesn't slap a lawsuit on our ass. He looks like he needs more money--- that artificial tanning lotion is pretty expensive.

    ScottyZ
  • Of course, but I was thinking someone might just put up a bunch of posts with one word or something, just to get into the next category, then they would have to be deleted, etc. Like the Magazine offer- 'real' posts count only. I guess it would be moot though, if someone was doing that they would probably get banned anyway.
  • Well, hopefully no-one will be *that* desparate just to move up in category. :)

And as for the free magazine offer, I'm sure that we'll notice someone trying to artificially get to the post limit.

    ScottyZ
  • You guys didn't notice me. I fooled you all, suckers. Haha, thanks for the mag, sloth.
  • Don't worry, we did notice and they're actually sending you the *other* version of the magazine where they always give the wrong poker advice, and starights beat flushes.

    ScottyZ
  • and starights beat flushes

That's Okay, as long as the article is on 3 card.
  • Hehe, "Canadian 3 Card Poker Player Magazine"

    ScottyZ
  • Hey, I wonder if I'm up to 75 posts by now...
