  • Here's what I was able to find out ... I don't have anything in writing, but several people at the Casino have told me the same thing, so I assume it's good. :)

Registration begins Thursday, October 28th, at 9:00 a.m. in person.

Tournament will be held November 9-13 (preliminary rounds), with the final day being Sunday, November 14th.

Everything else is the same as last time ... $200 + $25 ... rebuys, and an add-on. The only difference from last time if you can only buy one day initially (last time, you could register for multiple days, and then cancel later days if you qualified for the Sunday).

I was hoping for a freeze-out tourney, with no rebuys/add-ons, as were many people I see at the Casino ...

  • I think I am going to try and play on November 11th, anyone else?

  • Damn, Id love to be in this, BUT with the kid due next week I dont know.

Would anyone want to play for me if I pay but cant make it? I would assume you buy my entry fee?

Before trying something like this, I'd suggest you find out whether or not an entry would be tranferrable. The fact that you must register in person makes me guess that they are not.

  • Scottys' right. You show ID and that registered person is the only eligible player. It is not transferable or have any cash value.
  • How fast do you expect it to fill up? Are we talking about line ups, going after a day shift of work and being able to get in? What can one expect on the 28th?

    Thanks
  • Junes tourney had a line-up of 150 by 9am, sold out by noon. With the supposed changes ( 1 entry per person) I would expect a little larger window of time but not much, maybe 36 hours or less.
  • Thanks for the info mac. Appreciate it. :)
  • I also suspect it will fill up quick, although not as quick as last time.

I registered on the first day last time, and will probably do the same next week.

    Still wish it was a freeze-out tourney though ... < sigh >

(not to be confused with mac, who is a much better player! :) )
  • I missed June's tournament. Could someone please let me know how it was run. Do you play down to final 2 on each table or is it the winner of each table that move on??

Does anyone know what time they start on the 14th?

On the off-chance that I made the final day, I'd have to reschedule my flight home from Regina, and I'm wondering if it's possible at all.

Hmmm... I'd return from a tournament in Regina and then go and play another tournament that same day. Anyone got the number for GA? ;)

    Cheers,

  • A couple of things ...

First, regarding the format ... again, keep in mind, this is how it worked last time ... there are 50 players each of the first preliminary nights (Tuesday to Saturday) ... play starts at 7:00 each night (you have to be there at 5:00, no exceptions!) ... the 50 players play until 10 remain, and those 10 go to the final day, and start the final day (Sunday) with their chip stacks from the preliminary day.

That means, if you were in a night where there were more rebuys/add-ons, the total chip count of the 10 who qualify will be larger, which might give you a bit of an advantage when Sunday begins.

There are 50 who start the final day, and they play until there is a winner ... top 10 on the final day are paid.

I seem to recall the final day started at 2:00.

Regarding all_aces flight comment ... you can only play Sunday if you qualify as one of the top 10 on one of the 5 preliminary days ... you must therefore play a preliminary day.

    Hope that helps,

  • Top 10 from each day move on. Do they combine tables until you have 1 table left or is it final 2 from each table???
  • They combine tables ... in the first tournament, I stayed at the same table for quite a while, and was finally moved ...

Finished 26th out of 50 on my night ...

Final hand, on the button ... dealt AQs ... folded to me ... raised, and was called by the big blind ... flop of AK7 rainbow, but one of my suit ... BB bet, I raised all in, and he called ... he had a K ... turn was a K, putting me behind, but it was my suit, so I still had some outs, with the flush, and an A ... didn't hit it.

  • BTW, was meaning to ask Dave ... Brantford didn't register to hold CPT events, did it?

    macbb :canada:
  • That's exactly right. I signed up for the last tourney in June. Took the morning off work and drove up to Brantford to register. I picked the Saturday prelim round, thinking that it would give me lots of time to get to the Casino that day....e.t.c. I got home after registering, only to have my girlfriend tell me we had a wedding on that Saturday!! So I tried to sell my spot to a friend, but the Casino said they are not transferable or redeemable. So, the wedding started at 6:00pm that Saturday....the tourney started at 2:00pm. I decided to go and play, and if I was still in it at 5:30pm, I would leave and the Casino would just 'blind me out' until the end. It turns out I didn't need to 'blind out' because I was knocked out shortly after the first break.

    Cecil Fielder's wife.
  • I would like to play in this, but there's almost no way I could get back home from school until October 30th at the earliest. By then, I'd assume that the entry cap will be reached.
  • The tourney back in June sold out in about 10 hours. My guess is, this one will sell out in half that time.
  • I'm not sure what to expect in the time it will take to sell out.

The one major difference, only being able to sign up for one day, might make it a bit more difficult to sell out initially. Last time, with so many people signing up for multiple days, the 250 spots went quickly. This time, they will need 250 different people. Don't know what affect that will have.

  • Would you really have to be there at 5pm for the 7pm start time? Kind of hard to do on a workday! (coming from Hamilton...)
Also, approximately how long would the prelim. evening last? How long would Sunday/final day last?

btw I played in a freeroll last night online, limited to 200 people, $500 for 1st, $300 for 2nd, $200 for 3rd. There was NO requirement of any kind re: raked hands, etc. That's a pretty good deal no? (Finished 139th - 1st tournament ever...)
  • Yes, last time you had to sign in before 5pm for the 7pm start time. Which is why I signed up for the saturday, coming from Toronto. Hamilton should be a 20 minute drive no? The prelim. rounds varied each day, the longest day lasted 8 hours, and the shortest was 5 hours. MACBB brings up a good point about selling out.....but I also think they'll get twice the response for this event. A lot of people waited to try and register by phone the following day, and found out it sold out. So I would suspect people will prepare for it this time. It might not sell out in 5 hours, but I would count on it selling out on the 28th.
  • The 5:00 p.m. rule was the rule of the Casino. I don't have the rules from last time here at work, but I know it clearly stated that you had to register by 5:00 on your day, with no exceptions. I seem to recall at least one guy who showed up at 5:05 and was not allowed to play.

You should either check this when you register, or call ahead now, and confirm.

Each day lasted different times, some by midnight, others at 2:00 a.m. (for the 7:00 start). I wasn't at the final day, so I don't know how long it lasted.

  • Is anyone going this Thursday to register? Do you think it will sell out by the end of Thursday night?

I plan on showing up at 6:45am as the registration begins at 9am. In regards to "when you need to show up" for the tournament itself. The pamphlet says you need to be there 45minutes prior to the start of the preliminary rounds. The tourny is Nov9-14, begins at 7pm on the weekdays and 2pm on the Saturday and Sunday.

The pamphlet also says that you CAN purchase more then one day but I spoke with an official there and they said that there are errors on the pamphlet and that is one of them. The official also said that last tourny they had people lined up the stairs by 8am, so yes it will be sold out by Thursday night IMO.

  • I called Brantford and was told you could sign up for more then one date AFTER October 30, if there are still spots remaining. I guess I'll have to go Wednesday night and play a little hold'em until the line starts.
