Tounament Players

What would be your number one ( or two) reasons for being succesful in a tournament?

What do you do that helps make you win or finish in the money?

  • I'm no expert and there is tons of people on here that are way more qualified then I to answer this question but for me the two things that help me finish in the money fairly consitantly are patience & reading my opponents. I have a ton to learn still and am learning with every hand played but I find when I screw up the most is when I try and push something that isn't there and get burned. I think you have to be aggressive at certain point but you definatley have to pick your spots, I'd rather error on the side of conservative then aggression, it costs you less chips.

Anyway this is what works for me most the time. I don't know if I've just been lucky or what but in the handful of local tournaments I've went in it's worked for me most the time. Saying that I've yet to get a 1st :) A bunch of 2nds but I always seem to come short when headsup, that part of my game I'm working on.

Anyway theres others here who have a lot more experience then I, I'd love to hear their suggestions as well.
  • Having the guts to trust yourself. There was an interesting article in CardPlayer a while back that discussed not being affraid to laydown a monster. In tourneys this a vital survival tatic that you will come across in most tourneys you enter. When you know your beat laydown your monster. You have no reason to prove yourself wrong!!!

I completely disagree with playing conservative though. To win you need to tight aggressive loosing up when needed. I will say playing loose aggressive early will usually send you to the rail in a tourney.
