Off to Vegas....

Alright, yesterday I finally planned my first trip to vegas. Going June 4-8, it ended up being about $700 for flight and hotels per person with my girlfriend and I. I figure thats a not a bad deal. We're staying at Harrah's, it's on the strip and easly accessible to other big casinos ( so I hear ). Looking to hit up 1/2 NL and 2/5 NL mainly. Any recommendations to specific attractions, or better yet poker rooms? I will be sure to write my first Vegas poker trip report as well. :D

  • See http://www.pokerforum.ca/f10/wsop-2008-a-14309/index2.html#post138569 for a list of the 200+ special tournaments that will be going on at Las Vegas. The tournaments with the highest Patience Factors by far are the Caesars Palace Mega Stack Series for only $235 or $340.

I believe all the Harrah's-owned rooms have increased their rake for cash games to $5. If you find any poker rooms left on the strip that takes less than $5 maximum, please include that in your trip report. Good luck!

    poker rooms?
  • The wife and I went last month. We did the Hoover Dam and the Grand Canyon tours to fill the days. I didn't get much time to play poker.

I played at Flamingo (where we stayed). $1-2 cash game seemed easy to beat. I would think that most of the rooms would be pretty similar. I was up $170 in 2 hours.

The Venetian has a daily $150 tournament at noon. 7500 chips, 30 minute levels, approx. 100 players. Takes about 8 hours if you can block off that much time. I wish I could have. Most other tournaments in Vegas have huge fees relative to the buy-in. Find the vegaspokertournament website. I don't know the exact web address.

We saw Le Reve at Wynn and Mystere at Treasure Island and I would recommend both. From what we heard from other tourists, those were two of the better shows. If you go see Mystere, get there early to see the pre-show with the fake usher.

The shark reef at Mandalay bay was good too. The buffet there was even better.

    Have fun.
  • If you want to leave the strip I would recommend renting a car and driving to The Valley of Fire.

If not, I would rot in the Venetian poker room for cash games and Caesars for the daily MTTs.
  • Pokerroom at Harrahs is pretty quiet. Usually only one 1/2NL game running and usually a limit table or 2. $60 tourney is pretty turboish.
  • Some activity ideas:

The Gun Store, Inc. - So much fun!

Grand Canyon - I regret not going each time!

Sigfried and Roy's secret garden at Mirage

Go see a show... La Reve was pretty cool, but pretty much anything Cirque du Soleil is pretty decent. There are last minute ticket booths around the city.

Just walk around and check out all the hotels... they are pretty cool just to see.

Yeah, I was definately thinking about going to take a look at acouple of events. I looked at the sched, theres a few 3 day NL events that are running while I'm there so I will probably go and check that out.

As far as different poker rooms, I'd like to check out as many as possible. Venetian, Wynn, Harrah's etc. Theres also site seeing and shows with the gf so I got to budget my time wisely.

I believe you have to 25 to rent a vehicle in US? :(
  • I've decided to try and goto 5-6 different casino poker rooms: Harrah's, Venetian, MGM, Mandalay Bay, and Ceaser's Palace. Will be going to play majority 1-2 and 2-5 NL and the occasional tournament.

Also if I have time, hopefully check out acouple events at the Rio where WSOP is being held. See what kind of atmosphere it's like there.

I just hope that I can fit this into 5 days and keep my girlfriend happy. :)???
