Supersystems 1 or 2

Cheers, can anyone clarify for me what the difference between SS1 and SS2 are? Is there a big difference, different sections, just updated ? Is it worth investing in SS2 if I already have SS1?

thanks

  • I own and have read SS2. I believe it's an update based on using new authors for the various sections, and Doyle adds a bit to his original section on NLHE. But I'm going from memory here, so I could be off a bit. Was not overly impressed with it, to be honest. Maybe I am not at the appropriate level to grasp it all, or something like that but, honestly, I have found other books in my collection to be more helpful to me. But thats me. :-\
  • There are some differences in the non-NLHE games. I can't remember the exact games, but I believe they removed stuff like 5 card stud /draw, and replaced it with 2-7 triple draw.

They've added a section on online play, and a "tips segment" with Mike Caro.. .both worthwhile. As for the actual content with regards to the "hot games" right now... SS2 will do IMO

  • I'm with Milo. I've read many poker books and was least impressed by the SS's.
  • I'd say SS2 was outdated the day it was released. Just go to chapters and read the section that was added.
  • I have read various poker books.I think it SS2 is a updated edition and you may follow this.
  • If you are going to pick one, pick SS2 since it covers the games currently played today. The only exception for SS1 is Chip Reese's section on 7 card stud.
  • [ ] SS1
    [ ] SS2
    [ ] crap from Cloutier
    [ ] crap from McEvoy
    [ ] crap from Hellmuth
    [x] everything else
  • I found the Omaha section quite good in SS2.

I have 2 copies now from a Doyle's Room promo. I'll sell you my used copy for $10 if you like.
  • You know you can read it online? Doyle gave it to the world...

    Way to cost Moose $10.
  • If I owned it I'd pay you $10 to steal it off my bookshelf

(I can't handle the guilt of throwing books out.)

It's still a smoking huge deal at $10.
  • There's never been a poker book I've read that I haven't at least learned ONE thing from....

And I've read "Online Poker" by Doyle Brunson
