Poker Movie filming in Vancouver requires extras

I found this on Craigslist and sent them my info yesterday.

I know there aren't a lot of Vancouver players on the forum, but I thought I'd put it out there.

I got a response email from them today and it looks like they will be filming the last weekend of April.

If nothing else, if I end up doing this I'll see if I can't get some pictures. Should be fun.

**if you've already contacted me about this poker film, i have your info, and will contact you next week about the casting.

LEADS (audition required)
Bobby: 20-28 years old. open ethnicity. preferably a REAL poker player.
Abe: 25-35 years old. lanky. rough around the edges. caucasian. preferably a REAL poker player.

EXTRAS (no audition required), although some may have a line or two):
5 Poker Dealers: preferably casino-level experience
2 Security Guards: Big boys.
30 extras (mainly poker players)

*roles will primarily (but not solely) require male actors. character faces encouraged.
**asian actors are strongly encouraged

we're currently in preproduction, but are trying to get a head-start on casting our short film. lead roles will be required for a total of 4 days, and the rest will be needed for 2 (likely April 27th and 28th - Sunday and Monday). i need to know whether you would be interested in auditioning for a bigger part or would simply like to be an extra. our limited budget only allows us to pay $50/day for the LEAD roles. However, EVERYONE will be fed well and will receive the standard copy and credit in a film that promises to be a success and receive wide festival exposure. additionally, one of the world's top poker-players, Phil Hellmuth, will stop by the set to make a cameo.

we're making this film with the primary intention of telling a good story and having a blast in the process. attitude is more important than experience. we just want to have a cool group of people working together. egos are highly discouraged, and everyone will be treated with respect.

if you're still interested in being a part of this, please write back with the following question answered. you can copy and paste if you like.

I WOULD LIKE TO BE:

A. A LEAD ACTOR (PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH)
B. AN EXTRA (PLEASE SPECIFY WHICH TYPE, IF ANY)
C. I'M WILLING TO DO EITHER

ALSO, PLEASE SPECIFY YOUR LEVEL OF POKER EXPERIENCE

thanks so much for your time.

    lol, rigged.
  • I wonder what movie this will be for... I think Hellmuth signed some deal to be in some movie recently.
  • It's going to be a short film from my understanding, but not a documentary.

I'll update the forum if I actually get the chance to be in the sucker.
  • where are they filiming?
    which casino?
how much does EXTRAs get? $50? food?
  • I guess the extras get food, and the paid roles are paid lightly at 50 bucks a day.

You can find the original on the Vancouver Craigslist site, I did get a response email from them last week, and since then nothing. SO I don't know what's happening with it.
  • Heard back----can't go now as I'm heading up to Whistler for the weekend.

    Don't know if that's a brag or a beat.

    Hello everyone,

My name is Marion, I'm the production manager of the short film entitled "Shark Out of Water", by Juan Riedinger.

You are receiving this email because you have expressed the wish to be an extra in the film.
Once again, we would like to thank you all for your interest in this project.

As you already know, we are shooting the movie this weekend on April Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th.

Ready for a great time among poker lovers and poker stars Yukon Brad and Phil Hellmuth?

You will find thereafter all the information you may need. Make sure to read and remember everything!

-Shooting will take place at the training center of the Edgewater Casino.
    Edgewater Casino - Directions
edgewater casino loc: Vancouver, BC, Canada - Google Maps
The training center is located in a different building than the casino; it's situated in front of the Casino's entrance, by the shuttles.
Look out for production assistants who will direct you in the right direction.

-Because of our tight schedule, all the extras are required to arrive at 7 am. Please don't be late! We know that it's early for a saturday morning but there will be good breakfast and a great atmosphere!

-In order not to overload the parking with cars, we ask you not to park at the casino.
Please come by skytrain when possible (STADIUM station). We are working on parking accomodations right now and hope to find a solution very shortly. I will get back to you with details as soon as possible.

    - You will appear in a Casino scene, with poker tables, craps, waitresses, guards etc. Please dress like if you were going to a casino. NO LOGOS on your clothes. Thank you.
Make sure to bring at least two outfits, and accessories (especially if you would like to be a poker player: hats, dark glasses, lucky charms etc.)

-As you know, your participation is on a volunteer basis nevertheless there will be great food for everyone! If you are allergic to something, please let us know right away or bring your own food.

-Considering that you might have to wait for a long time, feel free to bring things to entertain yourself (music players, books, sudoku, paperwork...) A few tables will be available for you so you can also bring cards and other silent games. Please be ready for the eventuality of longer days...

-Feel free to bring a friend with you! The more the merrier! All the extras will be asked to stay in one place in order to free the room for the crew to work, so the space will be confined... please don't bring the whole family with you :)

-The Casino nicely allows us to shoot in the training center where poker tables, chairs and other casino equipment are located. Please respect the place and its rules. You will find those rules here enclosed (in both .doc and .txt formats to make sure that everyone can read them). Please don't take "souvenirs" home; the chips and cards are the property of the Casino. This room will be our home for two days; let's make sure to take good care of it so we can all enjoy our time over there.

-Once at the location of the shooting, you will be asked to sign a liability waiver and a photo release form. Please make sure to sign them before you walk on set. (bring a pen :) )

You will be assigned a role on set depending on the scenes and their requirements.
For continuity reason, if you are to appear distinctly in a scene but know that you can't make it on Sunday, please let us know.

I think I covered all the main points. If you have any question, please feel free to send me an email.

Please take a few seconds to confirm your participation by replying to this email!

We are very excited to have you all on set, and can't wait to see the casino come to life on Saturday thanks to each and every one of you! This will look amazing and will make great memories for everyone.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all!

See you on Saturday and/or Sunday.

    Best regards,
  • I was right... Hellmuth is in it ;)

I would chalk the Whistler part up as a brag...that place is awsome, and this movie would prob be really boring. A lot of waiting around.
