Wednesday, April 9, 2008 $1000 + $100 Buy-in Event At The Great Blue Heron Casino

Hi guys,

I wanted to start this thread to get the word out about our much improved payout table and structure for this year. This tournament is going to impress some of the biggest skeptics out there.

Registration is now open for this event...

Terry aka GBH TD

  • At one place in your document it says the blinds are 20 min, "Limits start at 25-50 and increase every 20 minutes." but at the bottom of the blind schedule it says that "Blinds will increase every thirty minutes.". Which one is correct?
  • I will edit that right now... Did not notice that... It should say 30 minute levels

New pdf posted.. Thanks for catching that

While the cost per round more than doubles at blind level 4 (100/200+25 is much better than 150/300+25), the rest of the blind structure is a big improvement over the previously posted 2008 structure, which only had a Skill Level of 3. With 10,000 chips, 30-minute rounds and reduced antes at levels 5 and 7, the Patience Factor is 16 and the Skill Level is the maximum 6! In other words, this impressed "skeptic" has never seen this much poker play available in an Ontario casino tournament except the WPT events! Two thumbs up from BlondeFish. :wav:

Somebody had asked me last month about having a home game satellite for this April 9 tournament, but there was no mention of the improved structure in the website, so I wasn't interested. Is anybody else interested in hosting or participating in a rake-free satellite soon?

vacant Poker Manager position, I hope that GBH's Terry or John apply for it.
"GBH Tournament Director" for the new Tournament Director at WPT Fallsview! :D
  • is anyone from the forum planning on playing in this?
  • I'm thinking about it.
Although I didn't do anything in the Point Edward Tournament, I've been running hot and playing well online. I'll probably decide by this weekend if I'll be playing next Wed.
  • now if they could do something about the structure of the other crappy tournaments that they offer. This is a step in the right direction. They want more people to come out to their casino, they should offer better tournament structures. At this point, I would rather drive to Seneca to play in a decent tournament, eventhough GBH is a lot closer for me.

No problem, do I get a comped buy-in for the catch? :)
And blondefish is quite correct, this structure is fantastic, very close the the quality of the Venetian dailys.. If people realize this they may get quite the crowd.. and a longgggg tournament.
The $1K with a max number of 110 players would end somewhere around the 12 hour mark, with final table at 9-10 hrs. Very impressive.. (Hopefully my math is right, I'm sure blondefish will correct me if I'm wrong.)
  • I was just wondering how to go about registering for this event??

    Thanks

Their tournaments always sell out, so there is no need for a change.
The Maple Leafs sell out every game also..

I would love to play this tourney but it doesn't look good for me.
  • It sure does, thanks. I'll be sure to say hi to ya when you're handing over that fat cheque to me at the end of the tourney!! lol

    I'll be there.
  • Great tourney. Great structure. Great payouts and trophies. All you need are some lids for the coffee cups and it will be perfect. :)

Unfortunately I went out in 37th place when I made a critical error in judgement, thinking I could force a player to lay down his weak Ace.

Oh well, back to my day job.

I am glad you had a good time. Next time please do introduce yourself. I was amazed at how quickly it sold out. Tournament is still running at 10:30pm with 6 players remaining.

It was a fun day nonetheless. I cannot wait for the next one.
  • Can you tell me if these chips are still in play and if it would be possible to collect a couple racks of them? Thanks.

Yes we do still use these chips. I think you will have a hard time getting racks of these though. We do not use the 25c chips on the floor anywhere except for PaiGow Poker and the 50c are everywhere. But most tables only have about 40 in them so you will have to collect them over time.

Whoa, I never said I had a good time, I said it was a great tourney. I had a 56 yr old grump who stunk of B.O. to my right the entire day plus the I was almost completely card dead the whole time. It was a very tough grind to make it as far as I did.

If I was sandwiched between a couple of hot ladies while getting smacked by the deck it would have been a great time as well as a great tourney.. Maybe next time.

I did ask for you when I was eliminated around 4:30ish but was told you were on break. Sorry but I just could not stick around. Next time..
  • Hey GBH director or cardsrusa,

is the $500 freezeout 30 min blinds as well? Because I know the $240 rebuy are 20 min blinds.
  • yes! 30 min blind levels just like the 1k event. If anything changes I will be sure to let you all know.
  • Jack Hinchey is the chip leader and 1 of 4 Canadians in the final table of the $3 million World Poker Crown to be broadcast on Thursday at 10 AM ET.
8th place Bill from GBH plays in the Orangeville games, and is part of the small army of Orangeville players that will be invading the WSOP this summer. Congrats to both.

  • Can anybody confirm that the $2000+$100 event on December 9-11 has 10,000 chips, 30-minute blinds and the same blind schedule as the OP's attachment? The results from Wednesday's event with a prize pool of $110,000 is now available online.
30 min blind levels just like the 1k event.
  • I wish I could answer that for you Blondefish! I now work at the Grey Eagle Casino in Calgary... If you ever come out this way make sure you let me know... We can hook up at the Deer Foot for a session or two..
