help with this hand.

Anything I could've done differently? Or was it basically a crapshoot at that point with everyone at 4-5 times bb. Would a raise of 1000 or 1500 signify more strength and a legitimate hand rather than the all in which he might've seen as a steal?

  • Just unlucky. You need to pick a hand and play and so did the big blind. You ended up being a small favourite but regardless you need to move with your next hand.

How come every one is so low on chips? Is this a turbo of some sort?
  • Not Turbo but a Party SnG so some might consider that a turbo.
  • I think moving all-in with the 55 is fine here. Mainly because the tournament is, as you said, a crapshoot at this point.

The reason it may not be so obvious whether ot play this hand all-in or not is that we must realize that the BB (if he is a good player) is quite likely to call you with any two cards here, since he is offered 2 to 1 from the pot. You probably have zero fold equity here against the big blind in particular, but that doesn't necessarily mean you don't like getting all-in right away with a hand like 55. There are still two other players in the hand that you would like to see fold.

From *your* point of view, you're getting slightly over 1-1 yourself versus a random hand in the BB. If the other two fold, you're likely getting about 1-1 in a 1-1 race situation. "Go banana!"

(In reality you're a little better off than the rounded off figure of 1-1.)

This is probably a slim +EV play for both of you, assuming the 67o does not know what your hand is. (This EV comes from the dead money in the SB, assuming the 2 other players fold.) Being in crapshoot mode, neither one of you should mind this.

So, the BB calling here with 67o isn't nearly ridiculous as it may appear to be at first glance. I can't say I'm a fan of a blind structure where a slightly below average stack is probably right to call all-in from the BB with a hand like 67o. ;)

  • Scotty, not sure I understand, how is the BB getting 2 to 1 odds. he's calling 1500 to win 2250. And we had been like this for a couple levels with mostly blind stealing and shortstacks staying in on their allins so the structure wasn't that bad and there was some play. just a pretty tight table.

Money that the BB can win = 2043 from you + 250 in the SB + 500 in the BB = 2793

(Don't forget that the big blind itself is now part of the pot.)

    To call = 1543

Pot odds are 2793 to 1543 which reduces to 1.8 to 1.
