New York Baseball Road Trip

Alright boys....some of you have talked to be about hitting up Yankees Stadium this season before the year is over, and here is my plan..I will need to know ASAP.

With the new megabus offer, we are able to get return trips to New York for $50...much cheaper than driving/flying/other coach lines. The bad part is we can't hit up places like Atlantic City/Turning Stone on the way, but your choice. I plan to go down to New York for the series from August 29-31 between the Blue Jays and the Yankees. I can get bleacher seats for about $15. My plan is to leave here (Toronto) on Thursday night (so you take Friday off work/school), arrive in New York for the morning. Go take the Yankees Stadium tour at noon on Friday, wander around for a few hours before the game...find a hostel to stay in (or a hotel if we get enough ppl), and Saturday can be opened to another game, or we can do some tourist stuff and take the Saturday night bus back to Toronto and arrive in Toronto by Sunday morning.

Any interest?

  • Hey Wes,

can you give some more info on this bus deal. I live out west, but am from Ontario. I was really hoping to make it to New York to see the stadium this season as well, and thought I might make a try at it while I am home this summer.

  • When are you planing to go? I'm assuming it's after your 21st birthday, but before school starts in Sept?

I'd like to see the Jays, but the dates actually don't work for me. (Early June and late Aug)

If the dates work, I'm in!
  • It would've been Aug 29-31. I can be persuaded to go other weekends too that is not the Blue Jays

No way I can get away for that weekend. I can go any other weekend after your birthday.

    First weekend of August?
  • I'm in. Mmoose too! I think we are more into driving and stopping half way for a night at Turning Stone probably another night on the way back too. Either long weekend works.

It's a tossup on which I prefer. I'd like to see the Jays but it means I miss a trip to Houston. On the other hand first w/e in August is not a holiday in the US and it might be easier to get rooms.

If you prefer driving, I leave that option up to you. I can meet you guys down there or whatever. I'm not sure of my plans for summer so I might not be able to get something like Friday/Mondays off.

Dude you are welcome to road trip with us. Room for one more. Mark is used to small cars so he can ride in the trunk.
  • I am def. in.

    stp
  • Moose...which date would you prefer? I'm pretty sure I'm heading down on the 29th of August so I can catch a round or two of the US Open as well.
  • I go with whatever.

Yes that weekend works for me.

So thats Moose, MMoose, myself, JohnnieH, stpboy.

Moose I'm assuming plans to drive and can fit all 5 in one car?
  • stp is small. He can be the hood ornament/bug deflector.

In all seriousness, unless people want to sightsee in NYC, Fri night I would like to spend at Turning Stone and after the game, head back for Sat night. That way we never actually have to check out. But I am also open to staying in NYC Sat night but unlikely we will find a room in town for <$200. It's a long W/E so definitely back to Turning Stone for Sun night.

I was leaning towards going down for game and tour on Friday, and then spend Sat at Turning Stone...
  • That would be a night game then. We need to start researching hotel costs in NYC on Fri night then.

    Milford Plaza 700 8th Avenue
    NEW YORK NY 10036

Aug. 1 $173 is about the best I could find quickly and puts us downtown near Times Square.
  • I may bring a lady friend with me ... she is smaller then me so may function as a better bug detector.

I may also be able to book a hotel room cheaper then that as I have a "contact" for hotels....

I'll look into it and get back.

    stp
  • Ok so 6 now and I assume Johnnie will bring Wraychel, making 7 and the 3 ladies can hang together/possibly go shopping while the boys tour the stadium. So now we need a couple more to come so we can rent a minivan cause 6 definitely won't fit in my Accord.

    Nope, she's staying home.
  • I'm tentatively in for 2 (myself and JC). Jenn's just looking at scheduling to see if it will work, so once we have firmer dates, I can confirm or bow out.

Jason's the big baseball fan, so Yankee Stadium is a must-visit, and a nice father-son trip. Obviously seeing the Jays would be preferred, but any game would work. However, I'm obviously not hitting any casinos with him in tow, and was planning on taking a day with him to visit some touristy sites (Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Smithsonian, etc.).

Also, I have an 8-seater van, and with enough notice I could probably let Jenn know so I have use of it. Not sure how this lines up with plans to stop at Turning Stone (which I obviously can't), but I would have room for those simply wanting to be in NY for the game and site-seeing (not sure how close any casinos are?).

August is pretty clear, although I'd prefer not to do the first weekend in August (civic holiday), but could try to work around that if that's better for everyone else.

If you would like to arrange a trip for the Blue Jays weekend, I plan on going again. I wouldn't mind just doing NYC, as I can easily spend the weekend at US Open while you do the site-seeing stuff.
  • Wraych DOES want to go, but not poker both ways. If I can get the Labour Day off, we'll go then to see the Jays Aug 29-31.
  • If anyone is interested in going for a weekend or something...here is a great deal through Greyhound for $2 return trips to NYC
