WPT Lucky Chances

Did anyone see this yesterday? If not, the post below will give some of it away....

-extra line to tune out if you want to watch it later....

I'm a Hellmuth fan, but I found it humourous to see Antonio keep coming over the top of him on his button raises. Really put Phil off his game.

Phil - "Show some class and shake my hand."
Was Antonio's celebration uncalled for? Or are you supposed to dance and wave your arms when you bust out a player in 5th place?

hork.

    Yes.

I'm far from a Phil Helmuth fan, but now I'm ever farther than that from an Antonio Esfandiari fan. I understand that some players use this sort of needling to put players on tilt, but sometimes it goes a little too far I think.

It was somehow satisfying to me to see Antonio wither away in 3rd place.

This is also a general thing I've noticed. What's with all of these high-level (supposedly) professional poker players doing all kinds of celebrations like pumping fists, jumping around, throwing their arms up into the air? Maybe part of it is for the audience and cameras, who knows, but what is this, football? I've got to say, I gain a lot more respect for players (like Paul Darden for example) who sit there calmly when they win a hand like a *real* poker player would.

Best moment of WTP so far was when that casino owner in Costa Rica was clasping his hands over his head in victory after flopping TTx with something like AT vs KK. Then the turn sticks it in him when a K comes off. :)

And for all the WPT on TV does in terms of bringing new poker players into the game, it's too bad that newbies have to see some of these players acting like complete idiots. I think they might be getting the wrong impression of what poker players are like in general.

Classic moment. :) Kept on thinking how fishy it was for the owner of the casino to make it to the final table in his own tournament... I can't remember if it was Sexton or Van Patten who was talking about how some of the players should be scared of calling his raises.

"Don't make me mad, I've got shotguns in the basement." (or something to that effect) :)

    hork.
  • Read an article in card player about him..supposedly Cloutier pulled him aside and gave him a talking to and now he has class. sorry i spoiled hte article
