  • All I can say is, good thing he has poker to fall back on . . .
  • The next question part was funny..
And the musician dude was a space cadet...
  • I didn't see him on OTR however did see him at the Raps game, well, on TV that is.

    stp
  • Think musician dude was may have over-indulged in the green room before going to air.
  • I thought Phil did a good job on OTR. He's a poker player, what did you expect him to do, recite the Bible for you.
  • No, but answer a question for crying out loud. And once you get around to an actual answer, DON'T change it as soon as someone calls you out on it. To put it in poker terms, it was like saying AA is the best starting hand in Hold 'Em, and then switching your answer because someone mentioned that their favourite starter was KQ suited.
  • anybody else think this dude is a moron?
  • What dude?

    POTD.........

No, he's won the most number of WSOP bracelets in history.

He may be a d-bag or an arrogant prick but he CERTAINLY is not a moron.
  • It's 1 thing to talk crap on his personality, but I notice Devilfish Ulliot can't stop crapping on Hellmuth's poker game. Ulliot also claims he's the best heads-up player in the world, w/ nothing to back it up obviously. IMO, Ulliot is worse than Hellmuth in personality, at least Hellmuth can say he's won the most or as many WSOP bracelets as anyone.
  • Hellmuth IS a douche. Ulliot just combines those qualities, with his mid-life crisis, in order to be a lecherous douche. lol
  • Hellmuth partially naturally and partially fabricated (eventually) created a persona that fit the need for poker. He combined this with actual impressive results which is why he has endured compared to the many people you see screaming at every WSOP event that are forgotten.

Yes he makes people angry, but a lot of that is fueled by jealousy in others. He is fairly self aware that his emotional control is not his strong point so he kind of goes with the flow. Sometimes he becomes a bit of a parody of himself, but really who cares, he is a poker player not a leader of a nation.

His whining does get tiresome, and his ego is a bit much at times, but he seems like a relatively decent person, especially compared to most other poker players. Devilfish whenever he is seen is literally a bitter complete jerk, that "chark" guy is way more annoying in his cartoon character.

Also, go into any poker room and look around and count the number of people you would even want to have a chat with, the under over is probably 0.5 players. Hellmuth would probably be quite fun to be with when he is just himself.

He marketed himself well at the ideal time.
  • I agree totally. Go into CN poker room and try to have a conversation. The players that talk all want to talk about how good they are and pot odds. The best part is, they are usually wrong. Phil knows he's a joke, markets it and profits from it. And, like it or not, he's one of the greatest players ever
  • If you've ever spent any time with Phil, you find out that, yes... he's egotistical... but he's also a pretty damn nice guy....
