WSOP Event Registration Question

Hey guys,

Never been down to the WSOP but going this year.

Do events ever fill up? Is there any advantage to registering early? (I am going to play a $1500 NL event) - or, do most of you guys just wait till the last min to register?

Thanks.

  • All of the events (except maybe the Main Event) have a chance of filling up as there are only so many tables, with so many seats and so many days to run the event. Event #1 last year started over two hours late and with approx 1000 people waiting in line to pay. Last year, line ups were massive. There is supposed to be changes made this year to fix that problem. If you know you are going for sure, it is in your best interest to register early.
  • To 13CARDS or anybody else that have played in the Casino Employees event, what (if any) documentation were you asked to be eligible for the event? Weren't there casino dealers that pre-registered for last year's Event #2 but were unable to play because of the massive line-ups?

I do not think that pre-registering guarantees you a seat, saves you from lining up, or provides any advantages to the player. I think the only advantage is to Rio getting your 100% prepayment early and earning interest. There were less players in 2007 than Rio hoped for compared to the 2006 record highs, so I don't think any events sold out.
  • The 1500s are pretty crazy and did tend to sell out last year. Pre-registering online didn't save you any trouble last year though. I'd recommend just registering a day or 2 before in person, once the 12pm event starts each day there's usually no line except for the very first couple days when there's chaos. If you show up the morning of you won't be happy.
  • To Blondefish: I pre-registered last year, received all of my paperwork, and all I needed to do was get my seat assignment...piece o' cake, right? WRONG!!! I stood in line for over 4 hours, moved maybe 20 feet, with regisration nowhere in sight. The ONLY reason I made it in time to play was I went to the front of the line, LOST MY MIND on a tournament director, told him my event was starting in 45 min, and I was ALREADY paid up, I'm sitting, or there was going to be hell to pay. Needless to say, 2007 left the taste of feces in my mouth, and I vowed to do everything in my power to let them know what a debacle this year was. LUCKILY, the system has reverted to something similar to 2006, with pre-registration lines, etc. It was a much more organized event, and they have reverted to it. Now, I wish that for next year, they either leave the schedule alone, or tell us by November of any changes.
As far as documentation for the Employee's event, if you cash, you should have your badge or licence (I had everything) for ID. The crappy thing is, if you're not an employee, work your way into the money, you don't win, BUT, how many guys did you mess with on the way to being DQ'ed? They should qualify everyone at the start of the event, but don't...so be careful.
The Poker is good, I don't know if you've ever been, but 13Cards and myself have been a couple of times, and will hopefully re-appear in '09.
    Good Luck, play hard.
  • I pre-registered last year and it definately saved me time. I got there the day before my event and there was a very long line. I decided to skip the line and just look around when I noticed there was a pre-registration line with only 1 person in line, so I got in that line and got my seat assignment within 10mins.

All the $1500 buyin event will be capped at 2760 players (no alternates).

If you are only going there for a specific event I suggest to pre-register.
