LL HE question - aka: This is a bad beat story.

This guy was playing pretty decently all night, so I didn't see this coming... At first I thought a position raise to steal my blind, but I put him on a high pair when he played back at me, maybe KK, QQ, or even AA.. Was there a point where I should have slowed down? I'm Plaxus.

  • not sure how you could have seen that coming ...

can't see any point where you would have been sure that folding was the right option
  • I think the bet on the turn by Jaybird would set off alarms on my head that he's got the 5 and I'd switch into check-call mode. You just capped it on the flop and now he wants even more money in? Somethings up.

The river raise(s) were terrible. Look at that board 345(5)6. A single 7 or 2 or 5 has you beat. Never mind the sets that he could have hit..

It seems the error you made was putting your opponent on a single hand and ignoring the evidence that he's got a different hand than your original guess. Your opponent showed you a lot of strength in that hand, you'd have to upgrade after all that betting.

BTW, the original raise preflop by your opponent made me think he's on a steal, not that he's got a big pocket pair. Of course, thats just a pure guess since I dont know the game conditions.
