Reckless?????

I have been nursing a short stack for quite awhile and managed to double up with AK against AJ when 3 hands later this hand comes up.

Was this a reckless play on my part?
Unraised pot, small blind could have anything( though I felt his $400 bet sceamed weakness)
I couldnt help myself from moving all in here, I felt sure I had the small blind beat. But I gave no thought at all to the early limper....Mistake?
Would a flat call on the flop be a better play?

Comments

  • i only think this guys call was reckless
he only barely had you covered by 500-600 chips......his bet of 400 (min. bet) screamed weakness to me too when i was reading it, i think he was trying to feel ya out and see how strong his hand was. your hand was worthy IMO to push here, as you have mid pair w/ open ended straight draw, the only reckless thing here was his call imo, b/c he only had bottom pair and in the end he got lucky on the river....it happens b/c the better hand never holds up.....unfortunate luck for you.
  • I don't mind this play. You've got a lot of outs against top pair and there are 2 cards to come for your straight draw. The nice thing about putting a big bet in there now is that you'd like hands like Qx and 7x to fold, which would possibly give you 3 more outs. (MSM call this "Buying Outs".)

I think you're only going to be in serious trouble against two pair or a set, or partially counterfeiting hands like J9, QJ, J7, etc.
