Protect against someone who limps with aces...

I know I know... I prolly played this really badly but I had a really bad run of cards and well... I just fucked up but... I placed him on A5, A6 ...

Can you fold there? Was it REALLY a bad play?

  • Meh, you got trapped......(sh)it happens.

Now if I had the bullets you would have caught a J on the river.

I should add that with the 3 times pot bet I would have had to think but my play most likely would have been fold. Also makes it easier as I don't like TJ as a hand.
  • I can probably find a fold to a triple pot sized bet holding top pair and a marginal kicker and no redraw or even backdoor draw possibilities with 2 people yet to act.

I can find a fold preflop as well

here is where you fold. 300 in the pot and villian bets 1000. yes you have top pair, but not the best kicker. even with TPTK i'd probably lay this down (depending on the opponent obviously). your M is 17.5 so no reason to push it all here. however, if everyone was able to lay down top pair i'd make no money.
  • possibly could get away after such a large bet, but you got trapped it just worked out for him, fortunatley for him nobody hit better than a pair
  • I raise on the button preflop (limped pot) and fold to his reraise or the bet coming on the flop.

    isn't there 500 in the pot? :S

You are correct sir.....makes it even tougher and a better play by the trapper.
  • i love how guys post nl hands with absolutely no reads.

what are you hoping to see on the flop when you limp in?

useful tip i saw someone put in the chat in an SNG: the fold button is on the left

    There's a fold button? :D

I second your question though? You have top pair / weak kicker and are bet into 2x pot.
With no read on the villian it's a fold, so I raise pf and his bet on the flop assuming he doesn't repop pf makes the fold easier.
  • I donked my chips :(
    Now I feel bad!

    Thanks! ;)
    lol
  • Protect against someone who limps with aces...

...fold every hand. You will never run into AA.
  • Yeah... I won't play anything other than aces...
    That's a decent strategy !
  • follow the rules
    1. don't go broke in a unraise pot.
    2. small hand, small pot.
  • 1)Ummm NEVER LIMP ON YOUR BUTTON!!!!!!!!!!

    2) If you cant follow rule #1, then you better be able fold TPNK to any aggression

sorry, you are correct. still doesn't change my suggested strategy however.

Tried that on Saturday. Around 16 players left out of 39 player field, player to my right goes all in. I reraise and get rereraised by our new mod. For some unknown reason I call. Player to my right has kings and compuease and I have aces. King comes on the flop and we are screwed.

Moral to the story, don't play aces either.

Actually Dave, maybe you should just take up pinochle =)
  • With top pair, a mediocre kicker, and no draw, I would have probably folded to the overbet as well. It's tough to put him on Aces. I might have thought A-J or something. From my experience, when people slow-play Aces pre-flop, it's either because:
    A) They're limping in under the gun hoping someone behind them will raise, or
    B) Everyone has folded to them on the button.
It's rare (in my experience) to see someone slow-play Aces from middle position like this. I don't like that play, but it seemed to work out for him that time.

You know Dave, maybe we both should, can you imagine, that loose player pushing into both of us with just K's. He should have known we had those A's, and how come you had my outs? That's not a very good host, you should have slipped them back onto the top of the deck...
  • I got halfway through and got bored.

a: don't call pf with that. If you want to have fun, raise

b: then fold to the re-raise from aces

    c: enjoy unrammed asshole

    OR

    a: fold pf

    b: enjoy unrammed asshole
