Just wondered about this hand, I just couldn't see anyway he had the straight but...

I've been playing at the table for about 3 orbits so no real read on villain. He'd won one or two pos with ace-rag earlier. Me VPIP 25%, PFR 11%

  • Hit runner runner...sucks...shake it off...be sure to copy his name to your fav list for next time.
  • I'm not upset about the runner-runner, rather just wondered if I should have been re-raising at the end or slowing down?
  • I just couldn't see anyway he had the straight but...

I think I found a hint as to how he could....

Just console yourself thinking about the amount of drool the guy had to clean up from his keyboard / desk...

  • I'd have been a little more aggressive pre-flop and on the flop. I'm really not a fan of the min. raise, especially out of position. Most players won't fold to a min raise. You're building a pot you'll have to try to take down out of position.

The way I look at it, you're pricing in your opponent to outdraw you. Runner-runner does suck... but anytime someone min. raises me pre-flop and I have a playable hand (and position) like suited connectors or even suited semi-connected cards, I'm going to call. If I catch a nice piece of the flop or a nice draw, I'll hope my opponent is one of those guys that min. raises AA or KK and I'm gonna bust him. Just last week I played 5:s: 7:s: and busted someone who had AA and flopped the A. I flopped a flush draw and he'd min. bet/raise, giving me the right price to call... and I caught my flush and busted his trip Aces. I'm sure he went on to tell all his friends what a donkey I was for playing 5:s: 7:s: .

    Psst..it was a limit game :D

Fine as is. Just a cooler...chased down a gutshot. Move on and hope he stops getting lucky.

lol exactly. it's limit, so crap like this happens all the time ;)
  • he was awful determined to catch that straight tho wasn't he?
  • this is why I play NL, too many chasers. Lots of players will chase a four outer to the river, vs NL where a pot size bet will get most players to fold (most, but not all). I think you played it fine and just got rivered. Not much you can do really. Its limit.
  • I just don't have the stones to play NL cash games so I am almost (99.5%) a LHE player. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
  • Have you tried pot-limit? I find it's the best of both worlds. You can bet enough to push someone off a hand... but at the same time, you're hardly ever forced in a position to make a decision for your whole stack. Just make sure you control the size of the pot... because then you can control the size of the bets as well.
  • Your line looks fine.
    Keep playing aggressively.
