Toronto Multi Game Tourny

I'm looking to have a Multi game tourny, about 7-10 games. These games will be held once a week on a day where we would get the largest turn out. I'm thinking Friday early evening or Saturday afternoon. I'm also looking for help in coming up with with the fine details.

Here is what I was thinking.

Every week we hold a tournament where there is a affordable buy in of about $15 or $20 plus 2. the plus $2 will go into a pool for the final game.

example: $2 times lets say 15 people(someweeks more, some less i'm sure) is $30. $30 times 10 weeks is $300.
the winners of each tourny will win the pot that consists of the initial buy in.

We keep score of the positions finished in the weekly tournament play. The top 3 players will recieve free entry into the final tournament.

Lets say the final tourny is a little higher buy in $25 -$30. 15 players at $25 would be $375 plus the $300 is $675.

Now a player would have to play in a minimum of 5(?) tournys to be alowwed to play in the final ( this keeps out players looking to win a pot they've never put into). You will be allowed to send a substitute as long as they say there playing for you at the beginning of the game.

I would like to change the poker game weekly (hold'em, 7 card stud, Omaha)

I am in and if you need help just PM me. I have organized quite a few mini tournament and one or 2 larger scale one before.
  • I'm interested. I haven't played the games other than hold'em, but for a low buy in I'll probably just consider it a learning experience. Fish on ! :)
  • lacation and stuff would be kool
i'm most likely to be in ..depending on the day
  • Velvet,

You have the exact same idea that I have. I have been mulling over starting a similar type event. The only differences that I see between ours are the buy-ins and frequency. I'm planning on larger buy-in events, ranging between $75 to $250. We might want to try and coordinate things......possibly have some of your events as satellites into my larger buy-ins. Just an idea. I'm still in the prelims of organizing. I still need to check out my location to see if it's adequate, then I'm going to decide on whether to go ahead with things. I'll PM you if I am going through with things and maybe we can work something out?

    Cheers,

  • I am interested in the series of tournaments you are planning. I love the idea of the one acting as a satelitte to the larger buy-in tourneys. Let us know when you have something set up
  • i'm in i wantto start playingasmany tourneysas i can
  • I would also be interested, need information about location...if the date and time are reasonable I am in for sure.
  • Ok, I glad to see so many responses so quickly. I can tell you this much so far. the first date will be saturday October 16 and will be held in the Eaton Centre. I will be making a web site which I'm hoping to have it up tonight with details, directions and so forth. So check back here often. :D
  • Site is up, tell your friends. I put together a rough site so you guys can see when and where the first tourny is. http://ca.geocities.com/torontopoker/home.html
I will be working on the site for the next couple days (i'm learning how to write HTML so it's taking a while) So check out the site often. If your interested in playing, go to this web site and confirm through there. :)
  • just went to ur site ... i'm in too ... i might be able to bring a couple of friends
i can't confirm my registration also the link doesn't work :(
register me in the TPT too :)
  • Im very interested, just wondering how you will work out your blind structure and how will you award the prize money? Do you have a determined amount if 1-10 shot, 11-20, 21+ etc?
  • I'm working on getting all that info on the web site http://ca.geocities.com/torontopoker/home.html I'm working on it though.
  • To confirm your registration to event #1 go to http://ca.geocities.com/torontopoker/home.html and click on the confirmation link. It does work we already have players signed up through that.
  • Excellent. I just confirmed!

If possible, I also would be interested in the blinds schedule and payout information, but there is no rush. I'm sure it depends on your anticipated sign up. Thanks for putting this together.
  • sweet! this sounds like a great idea! no 2hr drive to rama :D
    sent my registration!
  • Already 20 peopled registered, check out your competition at http://ca.geocities.com/torontopoker/home.html

If anyone has chips they can lend on the 16th of October it will be greatly appreciated.
  • This sounds like a great idea. I would love to play different games in different tournaments, and maybe even a tournament where you rotate each game for every orbit (hold em, stud, omaha - you could call it Hostudmaha).

My only suggestion would be maybe considering a higher buy-in. I doesn't have to be $100, but for people coming from the burbs (Oaktown for me) I think a little extra cheese on the pizza might be cool. $25 or $50 would be a bit more enticing...
  • I prefer the buyin to be good enough for us College kids just trying to possibly earn a little cash.
  • Frankly I am interest in all levels ($10,$25, $50, $100), after all it is mostly about practice, practice, practice. You play what you can afford and don't play the rest until you can.

The nice thing I am finding out about Toronto these days is that there are tournaments popping up for all level of players.
  • I'll try to make it out to a few events, although I doubt I'll make it to enough to qualify for the final event.

It might be too late to suggest this, but have you considered making the top prize for the final event an entry into a Canadian Poker Tour event?
  • The Canadian poker tour Idea is a great one although all players in the tournament my not want that as much as having the cash, plus I'm not sure the level of play with such low buy in's is up to par of the Canadian Poker Tour. I'm sure if you wish to buy your seat with your winnings you could do that.
I want to keep the buy in fairly low so when we start playing the other games like Omaha and 7 card stud players won't shy away from the game. I think most players are fluent in Holdem but would like to have a chance to play other games cheap.
This tournament is designed to be fun, meet fellow Toronto poker players, have a little competition with the player points and get in good practice for when you do go to the casino.
  • Wouldnt be a bad idea, i cant imagine you getting nearly as many people for stud though. I think everyone favours holdem.
  • 31 Players have confirmed, we're gonna have to cap this at 40. we only have room for 40 players. If anyone knows a good place to play in the future with a larger area drop me a line. http://ca.geocities.com/torontopoker/home.html
  • About 14 hours until the cards start dealing. Hope to see everyone there tomorrow. Seems like it will be a good turn out.
