SLOW PLAY OR bet your royal flush

over the years ive seen alot of hand postings on here , but ive never seen this question what do most people do in this situation just thought it would be kind of cool, to see what diffrent players would do in this situation flopping the royal flush slow play or bet or raise. you and 2 other players your in postion and everyone checks it to you.

  • Well this will come up every 649739 hands or so - so better be prepared.
  • are you sure you wouldent lay it down moose ?
  • Anyone who bets would have to either be the biggest moron ever to exist, or so insanely confident in their opponent to call/raise... and I shudder to think anyone could ever be that confident in a read.

Aflop bet against certain opponents would throw them off. I wouldn't go all in, but maybe throw a smallish bet out there to see whats up with their hand.

That being said, of course checking is preferable in most situtions. Let the field catch up.
  • is it limit? ;)

I had a royal flush at Brantford 2/5 Limit.

    QTs preflop.

    7 players to the flop.

Made it on the turn ... I bet got 4 callers.

    River pairs the board.
    Everyone checks to me.
I Bet on the river, call, call, call, check-raise!

At this point I had to think if I wanted overcallers or should just bet..

    I re-raise.
    Fold, fold, fold, Call.

Should I have just called there to induce overcallers?

I decided it would be nice if I got into a raising war.
I had about $800 in front of me and the check raiser had about $300.
    If he had quads... ummm

    Hummmm...

If you automuck .. it isn't too bad a leak in your game since it occurs so rarely...

I guess I must be a moron. I don't want to win the minimum with the nuts.
  • LOL^^^ My new policy is to automuck all Royal Flushes in limit.

Add me to the moron list; in a cash game I would come out betting hoping someone hit top pair or two pairs. I'm not going to get paid anyways if no one hit so why check it. Not unless there is a high hand jackpot or bad beat pot. In a tournament, I may check it to the turn hoping someone will catch up.
  • I've been playing poker for 10 years and I've never flopped a royal flush - I've made a royal once but never flopped.

This being said - I would bet smallish. Just checking in position and then raising someone on the turn reaks of a huge hand and they'd be more inclinded to fold right there when raised.

I would raise because that's what donkey's say when they hold the nuts and it has been checked to them.
  • Too wacky a situation to worry about unless there is some sort of bad beat jackpot requiring a showdown in which case betting is not ideal.
  • I <3 this thread
  • That would be the best opportunity to get creative. I'd be wanting to slow play, then maybe go over-the-top, trying to sell a bluff..

I've never made a royal in live play...2 times online...and both times someone pushed all in ahead of me because they had either the nut flush or fh...

for the math people here (which I'm not) what would be the odds of flopping a royal??

to answer the question of this thread, I'd be checking/calling to the river...if one or more people were betting/calling I'd be re-raising, trying to make the most of my hand. I may make a raise on the turn if there was someone betting into me, but only if I had a solid read that they were capable of calling...If I think they're folding to a raise a call is in order. IMO

  • I flopped one at Blue Heron playing 5/10 Limit.

What are the odds of someone actually re and reraising you, capping on every street? That happened too. T'was a great hand it was.
