I did it again....

I always tell myself not to get it all in on a draw early in a tourny, but there I go doing it again. This time it worked pretty well for me, and I think I was justified in doing it this time. I had a ton of outs against pretty much any hand the villain had.

I put him on AQ rather than JQ.

Thoughts?

  • standard imo
  • meh....coin flip on the flop, I'd do the same.
  • Looks good. No reason not to get it all in here.
  • Unless villain shows you Ac Qc I don't see any reason not to get it in.

You're not far behind much else.
  • i guess it kinda depends on what kind of draw you are getting yourself into. if you are worried about playing draws early in a tournament just play the strong ones.. as you did here :)
  • Wish I didn't see the outcome but here's my 2c.

I fold for the following reasons:

You got a caller and a raise on the flop fro your EP bet.
You are not drawing to the nut flush.
3 of your outs leaved you with the donkey end of the str8.
It's still early. Why race when you don't have to.

    Not an overly strong draw.
    See post above.
  • true enough, nice analysis

Open ended straight draw and a flush draw... can't get much stronger than that.

If you are gonna play T9s and fold on this flop you shouldn't play the hand in the first place.
  • With the betting on the flop you can close either of your draws and still be in a $hitload of trouble.
Just don't believe at this point it's really worth it.

This is the piece I don't get.. Why raise that flop that much with a draw? Why not call, see the turn and go from there. You know he's got a hand of some sort, you currently have Q high. You know you are pretty much always behind and drawing, you don't have to put any more in the pot at that point. Perhaps also bring the third player with you and if the turn is favourable, then go all-in (drawing hands like this like lots of players)

I hate this mentality of "OMG PUSH" everytime you get a draw or AA.. Yes, you have the potential of doubling up against a lesser hand, but a draw just gives you high card if it doesn't hit, and AA's are only one pair and usesless against SOO many other hands.

Maybe I'm wrong and I have to play against it so much that I tend to get sucked into it as well, but I just don't like the fact that there is so much information you don't have, and you are risking your entire tournament on Qhigh at this point.
  • Because if you raise in this spot you don't have to hit your draw to win the hand.

on a side note, all my chips are in this pot in most tournies. Tournies with good structure such as this Fifty Fifty I'd have 2nd thoughts.
