Vegas hotel recommendations

Hi guys, I'm sorry if this stuff has been posted a million times before.

I'm thinking about heading to Vegas at the end of February to play a couple of the Venetian deep stack events... I usually stay at the Orleans because it's so damn cheap (like $80 a night) but my last experience there wasn't great.

Is there anywhere you guys could recommend... either on the strip or a short cab ride to the strip, that doesn't cost like $200/night?

Thanks in advance, any help would be much appreciated.

  • Bally's....I will never stay anywhere else.

Just make sure you request the North-(renovated) tower
  • Very Cheap = Imperial Palace. Great location cheap price, room good enough to sleep.

Cheap = Harrahs. Upgrade over IP. same general location.

TI. Close to Venetian at a reasonable rate.
  • Casino Royale right in front of the Ventian. Surprisingly good and cheap $60 to $80 for dead centre strip. Can't beat it.
  • The Venetian daily noon tournament is such a great value that it is actually better than their Deep Stack Extravaganza. For example, the $340 and $550 events have 6,000 starting chips, but their $150 daily tournament has 7,500 starting chips. See my tournament analysis @ http://www.pokerforumcanada.com/showthread.php?t=14084.

When I go to Las Vegas, I will probably want to stay at Imperial Palace for the same reasons as actyper. What dates are you going? Are Hayley, Big_Chips, Justin, etc. going?

  • Can't beat the Imperial Palace as far as I'm concerned. Get a players card and start asking for the casino rate ($49/night) If you go to Vegas with the boys to gamble you really don't care about the room as long as it's dark when you want to crash and has a decent shower before you start the day.
  • The Venetian is $159 a night poker rate; you have to play 6 hours a day OR their noon tournament to keep the rate.

If you want to have an amazing suite, the Platinum (behind Bally's 2 mins to mono 5 to the strip walking) is great as you get a an 900sq ft condo with a balcony for ~$1500 a week (more or less depending on time).

I have an in with an owner so you can get an additional 25% off, but this is the Princess Suite 17th floor, overlooking the strip.

Trying to eat healthy is hard in Vegas especially if your Vegan. So having a full kitchen with stove, toaster fridge etc was great as you can make your own breakfast, late night dinner which saves at least $20 a day.

This is best for two people, to keep costs low and there is a ton of room.

The shitty part is no free internet, $13 a day but gym and heated indoor outdoor pool is included.
  • Check out www.homepokertourney.com. The webmaster just posted a low-down titled "Playing Poker in Las Vegas", lots of which these guys just mentioned. Gives some things to think about, and has helped me plan my first trip.

How many beds are there in the suite, and how many can you reasonably fit in that suite? Doesn't sound too bad of an idea for a week or so to split between a few guys.
  • our suite had 1 king, and a pull out couch in the living room (which is a full second room - unlike a half suite at the venetian)
You can get a suite with 2 queens and a pull out as well, they just dont have the 48in LCD, you have to suffer with a 34in nor is there a fireplace.

Reasonably & comfortably you could fit three, if you really wanted to go college dorm style you could get at least 10 with sleeping bags on the floor and 2 in each bed.

Seriously though, 3 would be comfortable.
  • Hi Devin,

You're crazy if you don't take advantage of the Wynn poker room rate. It's probably the nicest place on the Strip and it's $129/night for only 6 hours of play. Incredible.

We recently stayed at Venetian and they didn't clean our room one day and didn't offer us anything for that. (Same thing happened at TI in the summer!) Also, I keep weird hours when in Vegas (go figure) and I kept getting woken up by the cleaning staff going around in the day because the inside and outside doors are so loud when they're being closed (or slammed) by the cleaning staff.

But anyway, yeah, go to Wynn.

  • Wow, thanks guys... lots of useful info here for sure.

ryanghall: I assume that Wynn deal is 6 hours of play per day? Not over your entire stay... the only problem with that is I'm going to be keeping a pretty busy MTT sched., and not all of it is at the Wynn, so playing 6 hours/day might be tough some days.

So far the plan is to go with Hayley, during a brief period in late February when it looks like I won't have to work. Unfortunately I can't schedule around the tournaments I'd like to play; rather, I have to schedule around when I'm off.

So given those parameters, looks like it will go like this:

Leave Toronto Feb. 22, and arrive Vegas early enough to play in the noon 1K Venetian deep stack event. If I miss that, there is a 1K Bellagio event at 2:00.

Feb. 23: $500 Venetian deep stack event at noon.

Feb. 24: $2600 Venetian deep stack Main Event. This would be the biggest buy-in tournament I've ever played, so if I don't satellite my way in, there's a chance I'll back out. If I do, I can play the 2pm Bellagio $540 event.

Feb. 25: Maybe day 2 of the Venetian ME, otherwise $540 Bellagio 2pm.

Feb. 26: Either the $540 Bellagio at 2, or the $300 Wynn at 7, or both.

Feb. 27: Unfortunately I absolutely have to return home this day, which really blows because the Wynn series is just starting.

In addition to those events, there are all kinds of $100 to $200 events at places like Caesar's etc. happening all the time. That's the plan for now! Next step is to start looking at accomodations, and this info will really really help.
  • $169 avg rate for the solitare suite; direct from the hotel website; I can probably get you a lower rate with the guy I know.

910sq feet; plasma tv, full kitchen, full spa bath (the tub was HUGE think 5 of me would fit:) And seperate marble shower.

It is at the corner of Kovul and Flamingo, so your about a 15 min walk to the venetian (7 when you figure out how to go through the back lane/parking area).

A deal for MGM Grand for $79 or $89 a night.

The Wynn poker rate is 6 hours PER ROOM per day so if two of you are sharing a room then it could be 3 hours per player. Playing the Caesars Pot limit tournament on Monday I was speaking with a couple of other players who were doing exactly that... Real nice place....

Also if you can go there on the 20th and then stay until the 27th Southwest still has a few seats available for $232. all taxes includes, out of Buffalo.. Not quite as good as our $208. direct flights but still not bad..
  • Dirt cheap is Sahara and/or Stratosphere. Sahara is on the monorail line so you are 10 min from any casino on the strip.

Stratosphere is a bit nicer but an extra 3 min walk to Sahara to get on monorail.

Last time in Vegas I stayed 2 nights at Sahara for $34.99 and then moved to Strat for 2 more nights at $19.99. Of course that is time of year dependent. You can google either and book directly with the hotel.
  • Thanks for all of the suggestions... I decided to follow Wes' advice and book at the MGM Grand. The rates at that link he included in this thread were quite good, and I'm bringing Hayley (her first trip to Vegas) so I didn't want to go too hardcore place-to-sleep-for-gamblers.

    Thanks again!
