Point Edward - Sarnia Cash Games?

How are the cash games now at Point Edward?
Any 20-40 and up?

Will be there end of March for their week of tournaments and would like to know if there'll be any good side game action (hoping more then just 10-20).

Comments

  • What are the details for Point Edward's upcoming tournaments? I could not find any information on the net about OLG casinos' tournaments, as usual. :(

Any chance you can attach the broucher?
  • Sorry - I don't have the brochure - I called the casino for the info.

Anyone have info on cash games which run there..???
  • The only times I've been there only two tables of $5-10 LHE, on a Wednesday night.
  • I think Sarnia has great staff and dealers, but just no games. Last year I was at the there for tournament week there was only one night they got a 20-40 going and the rest was all 5-10 and 10-20. I spent more time in the strip clubs then the card room because of that.
  • I grew up in Sarnia, now living in Vancouver.

When I was there it was almost always exclusively 5-10 limit hold em, and it was the same 10 or 15 gloomy old guys playing it over 1 or 2 tables.

With that in mind, I was just informed by an old friend that Sarnia will be getting 1/2 nl in the near future. That might make for a little more action with a little more regularity.

And Smooth, please let me know what you thought of our strip clubs, cause I remember them being about as gross as any place could be.
  • The strip clubs weren't of the high end calibre but a couple hotties from the T.O area were dancing there and they made it a fun time. Can't get into too much detail since its not appropriate for this forum :)
  • To SMOOTH55 & anybody else going, which hotel are you staying at? Point Edward is a 5-hour round-trip drive for me. If I can find somebody to share the costs of the drive & motel, I am considering staying overnight on March 27 & 28 to play in the $300+30 and up to two $600+50 events. One motel has a rate of $68/night with "stay & play" gambling bonuses.

The event information was not easy to find out, but Point Edward is using the same OLG format as Casino Brantford's +$EV events. You get 5,000 starting chips with 30-minute blinds. The Patience Factor is 9.1 and the Skill Level is 5.

The first $150 (not $100) event on March 25 is sold out. There will continue to be satellites during the week. The Tuesday-Friday tournaments start at 4 PM, while the weekend tournaments start at noon, including the Sunday finals. The fee/rake for the $650 events is 10%.

If anybody has questions, the casino's phone number is 1-888-394-6244 and you can also post the information. Is STR82ACE, The_Game or anybody else interested in hosting a home game satellite?

  • Blondefish - I'm almost certain the first tournament is $100 + $15 admin fee. I've already registered and they've taken the money from my cc. The second is a $300 + $30 admin fee.

I'll be staying at the Best Western down the street - less then 3 mins from the casino - $110 internet rate with taxes (I don't mind paying a bit more as they have high-speed internet, just in case I bust out and there's not bigger cash games I can play online at least). There is also a holiday inn right next to the casino but its about $10-$20 more/night.

Would love to meet any forum members there who are going.

NL cash in a charity casino? This would be absolutely amazing because I am only about 45 min away from Sarnia and I would definitely start playing regular in that game.

I was under the understanding that charity casino rules had a max bet rule of $100 for all games. This is the reason NL has never been offered. I wonder if it will actually be a CAP NL game.

Do you know anything else about this dino?

Sorry I don't know anything further. I live in Vancouver now, but still talk to friends back home, and I couldn't get anything other than it was going to be offered.

As for hotels, the holiday in and the Best Western are literally next door to each other, so there is virtually no difference in distance to the casino. The Holiday also underwent some big upgrades in the past couple of years, so it may be nicer.

Sarnia is a bit of a dive sometimes, but there are some decent places to hang out. Check out Ups and Downs, a British style Pub on Front street, and for a pretty cool eatery check out Lola's on Christina street.

PokerDro's advice on the Drawbridge Inn is also decent.

Any Chance I know you man?

I'm Thirty, and went to SCITS. Was pretty involved in Skateboarding as a kid down at the old Harry Turnbull park.
  • St. Pats and 3 yrs older more of the athlete type. That's almost comical if you see me now LOL
  • Dinobot - any word if River Rock is going to have another Johnny Chan Classic tournament this May?
  • Hey guys,

The first two tournaments are done , Tues 150 and Wed 300 , the biggest game we have had going was 10 -20 omaha high / holdem round by round , but half the guys in the game are good friends , 3 or 4 sharing a bank roll , so prolly not the best game , alot of jamming it up for freinds.

As you prolly know the 5-10s are horrible with 8 or 9 callers on every flop , even with a raise. Bring 400 if you want to play it , and you will need like 3 hours to show a profit , alot of hands get run down.

The 10 20 is a good game , but swings are big in it , as the action is always crazy , last week they did cap 40 preflop 8 ways blind.

I suspect the biggest game they will have is 20 40 during the tournament , Friday night will be the biggest action , alot of out of town players coming in for Saturdays qualifying round will come friday.

If you like no limit i would suggest playing in a 20 man satellite and then selling your entry , they have been running 20 man 130.00 entry sats that pay top 4 650 entry, i have played two and got two coins , its easy to sell them for 600 or so. so a 470 profit in about 2 hours of play , your not gonna get that at the 5 10 and its ruffly the same buy in.

Contrary to the rumors they are not getting NL , i live in sarnia and have been hearing the nl rumors for 5 years. Basically they are a charity casino and cant spread NL. End of story. When sarnia first opened they signed a deal with olg to have 100 max bets , this was to protect windsor and rama who were protesting the opening. So unless someone rips up that contract they are not gonna get it.

But they are gonna start to run more tournaments , they are gonna do a regular 150.00 nl every sat at 6 , and they are looking to run a daily 50 $ tourney , all there weekly tourneys are capped at 50 players.

good luck to everyone playing , i am in the friday 600 touney , look for me , just ask any poker dealer where aaron is and they will point me out, i can give you the low down on your table.

    GL
see you at the final table , first place est 60000.00 for the main event , hope i can take it down this year.

If this is true, have you or the other non-cheating players reported it to the supervisors? When my friend noticed two buddies colluding yet again at his table at Fallsview Casino, he called a supervisor over to ask that their cards be turned over before he showed his quads; the two cheaters were banned for one year! :p
But they are gonna start to run more tournaments
Anybody that finds out when the next Blue Water Classic is, please post. As usual, this OLG casino did a horrible job publicizing this event. It wasn't registered as a Canadian Poker Tour event. There was no information available online. If I had known about the satellite and tournament structure earlier, I may have gone with friends to Point Edward for the entire week instead of us crossing the border to Seneca Casino.

Anyway, good luck to you and other forumers for the rest of the week. If anybody knows of any forumer who makes it to the money, please post.
  • They were taking emails at the sign in desk so they can blast out emails regarding future events.

Call and get put on the list.
  • I believe the next Blue Water Classic is in September.

I spoke with Lisa in Customer Relations about the need for more publicity about poker events and suggested she come on our forum, check it out and post about events.
