Freeroll Query

Okay, so I've recently taken up playing at an underground club near home. I qualified for their T.O.C. which is coming up soon. What would your attitude be towards this tourney? I have played strictly home games until now, risking anywhere from $10 - $50 a night in these games (I know, small beans to some of you). I do okay with my usual group, and had a good enough night to win my way into this thing. My question refers to mindset. Would you be, "happy to be there", and therefore loosen your play? Or would you treat it like you had to buy your way in with regard to how you went about playing? Opinions please.

  • Play it to win it. Simple as that.

Play the same way you did to get you the seat in the first place. You have nothing to lose, but you have alot to gain depending on what the payouts are.
  • ditto; if you have specific questions on your style of play, that might be easier to answer. Its hard to generalize and also the structure of the TOC would be useful. Good luck in any case.
  • Thanks folks. Obviously I am going to be trying to win the whole thing. I was just curious if I should be playing a little tighter than normal. Pay out is top 3 of 20, and I am fairly aggressive in terms of play. I'm thinking a little tighter at the start may help me establish a "better" image, before turning the screws.

Depends on the blind structure and starting stack. If its a fast blind structure, you might have to start mixing it up early, but if its slow you might have some room to play players postflop and play hands with high implied odds. Try not to go in with a "pre-determined" strategy, look at the players there and how they're playing, and adjust.
