  • IMHO, an online course for something that requires a lot of hands-on work does not make sense. In order to become a good poker dealer, you need lots of hands-on practice with the cards, chips, pots, boards, tables, different kinds of live players and unexpected situations.

If your goal is to become good enough to be hired as a casino dealer, you need to be qualified in at least two other games besides poker. You will probably have to move from Ontario where there are many more experienced laid-off dealers than there are full-time positions to an area where there are casino expansions, e.g., Alberta, New Brunswick, Atlantic City or Las Vegas.

  • Definitely agree that you need the actual table experience. There's no way that a video can cover all the situations that you're gonna run yourself into. Not really sure of how good the videos/instructions are on that...would need someone who actually has it to verify that. I wonder how good that stuff is in preparing you when you actually do get on the table. It may or may not be a good prep in order to help you when you do get some table-time in.

Also curious if that stuff is helpful for those who already have a good grasp of dealing but are trying to fine-tune or make sure that nothing's been missed or if there are any helpful pointers. I'm essentially self-trained but also had a bit of help from other family members who are dealers as well. I've been dealing for over 2 years outside of the casinos, but I wonder if there's anything that I can get out of it.
  • I have a book on dealing poker...$20 takes it...Plus shipping and handling, very reasonable...
