  • Hey,

I've been playing poker in Toronto for the past 3 years. Just found this site, check out my blog if you'd like.

    Later.

    Welcome,

    Nice blog!

I'm going through a downswing myself. My worst yet. 250 Big Bets (limit)
I'm taking a serious look at my game.
    Analyzing the pokertracker hands...
  • Welcome to the forum!
  • Welcome B&M. Where do you play?
  • Welcome,
    Nice blog!
Ditto. It's scary when intelligent players such as B&M Grinder, ReefAquarium, 13CARDS, etc. have such long, extended losing streaks. To those who have managed to turn around a long losing streak, was it enough to take a break or move down limits?
  • Thanks for the greetings.

I just had a long response typed here and then windows decided to reboot..so here's a brief response.

I play in Toronto clubs and and the casinos when I get around to it...I prefer holdem at casinos, the games tend to be pretty weak passive compared to the aggressive/maniacal underground holdem I play, but the distance is a bother most times.

My game of choice is Omaha/Omaha 8, but I play many forms of poker.

Thanks for calling me an intelligent player, it hasn't felt that way for a month or so. I likely lost 2x more than I should have in this current downswing due to frustrated late-session play. The blog is my way of being more accountable to myself...I'm not huge on keeping meticulous records as that gets me too obsessed with things...I know I'm a winning player, so I find it keeps things more enjoyable for me just to calculate my totals at the end of each month.

I play some pretty big-bet poker games -- i just played a 2/2 NLH session where a player lost 5k in one night...1/2 PLO where players have lost 3-4k in a night, etc. I'm tring to rework the mental part of my game -- discipline in all aspects and positional poker...for this reason I'm forcing myself to play only limit poker for the next while until (hopefully) things are back on track...and, yes, I've moved down in limits for now as well.

    Nice to start meeting everyone.
  • Welcome (back?) to the forum, always good to have some "intelligent" players on the forum, lord knows we have enough of those KW folks around here.
    :)
  • The blog is my way of being more accountable to myself.

Anytime I've heard that, it's never worked. IE, people who blog in order to reign themselves in just don't blog the self-defeating events they should.

I don't think that would be true...winning players tend to be very honest with themselves and correct their mistakes/fill the holes in their game. The blogs of players I respect record, often times in detail, the results and mentality of losing streaks. Poker is a tough game and I feel that any player that wins long-term has to be introspective. The purpose of a blog (for me) isn't to glorify my playing, but to keep a diary of my thoughts/sessions. If people want to learn a bit or if it helps them a bit to read about my play then why not share it? Besides it's the easiest format to keep a journal these days...I don't think I even know how to write legibly anymore.
  • Yes, I'm not saying blogs are stupid.

What I'm saying is that people who have identified that they need ways of being more 'accountable to themselves' rarely find salvation through the blog. Something will happen, you won't want to write about it.. and boom thats it, it's no longer serving its purpose.
  • During each session, I record my start & end times, buy-ins, cash-out & any tournament info in my PDA. I also find it difficult to enter my information daily at Pokertracking.com. I usually wait for a good winning session, then I am motivated to enter it and analyze my results with a positive mindset. My longest losing session streak is 8.

Like what? I already admitted that I'm in the depths of my worst run in 5 years...not much worse to write about so far. I find that writing the blog helps me more even-handedly review my sessions...I guess time will tell as I'm new to it all, but I feel it will be good for me.

Well, I always know where I'm at bankroll-wise each month. I realize that I have a somewhat obsessive personality, so knowing my monthly totals and # of sessions with more or less an average time per session works for me. I've been playing middle limit for a few years so it's not like I'm fooling myself, my bankroll is sitting in it's own bank account as we speak. I just try not to obsess and enjoy, so this is what works for me. I've been through the meticulous accounting and it just doesn't allow me to enjoy the game as much...this is what works for me. I've seen micro limit players that take more time analyzing their bb/table/h and the EV of folding AK than actually playing poker and that just isn't my thing. How many of us are playing professionaly? It's not like being off $100 one way or the other at the end of the month is going to change anyone's life, so enjoy playing and focus more on the game than the decimal places.

I was making a generalized statement, not a comment on what you've done.

    Cool,

So where does everyone play? Mostly online players here?

I used to play in Toronto Clubs.
But I stopped when the police decided to visit them.
    Now I play at Brantford.

I used to move money around from site to site online.
    But Neteller was stopped.
Now my cash is in Full Tilt.
