TORONTO (September 24, 2004) – TSN raises the ante with the best from the world of bets, bluffs and buy-ins with 25 hours of coverage of the 2004 World Series of Poker. The 22-part series debuts tonight (Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET)and continues until the finale on October 24 when nine players battle for the grand prize of U.S. $5 million and the title of world champion. TSN will also televise the 2004 World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions on October 30.
The 2004 World Series of Poker is the biggest and most popular poker event in the world, featuring the best card sharks competing in a variety of poker disciplines. ESPN televised the tournament in the U.S. this past summer and it achieved record ratings, averaging a 1.7 rating (1.5 million households), representing a 42 per cent increase from the network’s 2003 series on ESPN.
TSN’s 2004 World Series of Poker broadcast schedule is as follows:
CTV Travel will provide encore broadcasts of the annual tournament on Saturday nights at 9 p.m. ET beginning Saturday, Oct. 9.
Shot from Binion’s Hotel in Las Vegas, the 2004 World Series of Poker features 2003 champion Chris Moneymaker and poker legends Phil Hellmuth, Doyle Brunson and Johnny Chan vying for a record-setting 10th championship title. More than 2,500 entrants were admitted to compete in this year’s event, all pining to sit at the final table and battle it out for the tournament’s U.S. $5 million first-place prize – the largest ever awarded in World Series history.
