Yellowhead Casino, Edmonton

Is anyone from around there? 4 of my friends and I will be heading there for the first time to enter the tournaments that will be held from the 7th-10th. I was just wondering if there is a website or does anyone know any local hotels around there? How far away is the airport to the casino. What about West Edmonton Mall? We have never been to Alberta so we just want a little heads up. Thank-you!

This is a map of Edmonton with hotels/motels on it. If you are flying look at the bottom of the map at calgary trail and you will see a plane. This is the airport you will be arriving at. The casino address is 12464-153 Street, and there is the Yellowhead Motor Inn close by, but I don't know if its a dump or not. It probably does'nt matter because you'll be at the casino the whole time anyways.....hopefully till sunday night.

    Wader
  • Phone the Casino Poker room they have 2 Hotels that offer a 10% discount to players...

both close by I believe it's Super 8 and Travellodge
  • The Yellowhead is located on the Yellowhead Freeway (sort of a freeway) in the Northwest part of the city. It is about 5 minutes North of West Edmonton Mall (which has one of 4 casinos with 24 hour poker rooms).

The Yellowhead Inn (I think that is what it is called) is just across the road. It is probably adequate, however, since you will probably want to spend your non-poker hours (if there are any) checking out the WEM, you will be able to find nicer places to stay within 5 minutes of the casino.

It will take you about 30-40 minutes from the Airport to the Casino. Cab fare is about 40$ from the airport.

    Hope to see you here.
  • Thank-you all for your replies. Does anyone know if there will be a limit to registration for the tournaments? My friends and I are hoping to just register when we get there on Thursday, or will that be too late?
  • Im not sure but I would pre-register for any of the events you want. You don't have to pay the full amount, I think it only costs about $65 for the $500 No-Limit event.
  • As of today there are approximately 90 entries for the No limit and 70 or so for the limit.

Both events are capped at 240 players according to the new poker manager at YH.

Very unlikely that there will be any difficulty getting a seat for either of the major events.

    See you all there.
  • i'm also coming from out of town, but have been to edmonton a few times, and by far the thing that bothers me the most is how far away the airport is from the city, its about 45 minutes! as mentioned, the travel lodge and super 8 offer discounts to casino players, both under $100 a night, or so i was told.
west edmonton mall is within 15 minutes (i don't live there so forgive me if im wrong) and i have stayed there my last few visits to edmonton and it is a really nice hotel. but obviously costs a bit more. but if you've never been to edmonton i would suggest staying there, because other than the casinos, thats about it as far as entertainment. today there's a high of 5 celsius there! yowsers!
