  • Went to Brantford recently. Mid-week, mid-day, so not exactly what I would call a fishing trip. Spent three hours there playing $2/5. Nice room, efficient staff. Okay, I finished down $20.00, but that was better than I expected for being a newb, myself. Rama is next on my list. I've been thinking that they should pull the Bingo hall out of the International Centre and set up some tables. That would be cool. Anybody got a friend at the OLGC?
  • Well, there's no poker room at Niagara, however right on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge is Seneca Casino, which has a pretty decent poker room. They spread more limits than any of the Ontario casinos... 2/4, 3/6, 4/8, 5/10 and up. Also Stud and Omaha, and NL Holdem. I find the 2/4 game there the loosest that I've ever played at a B&M Casino, with 8 to see the flop on a regular basis.

I've liked Rama, the 2/5 and 5/10 games there have been good to me. A *bit* tighter than Seneca, but still VERY loose... 2/5 has about 6-7 to the flop regularly. Was there last saturday for about 9 hours, caught a few cards and finished up $400. (btw, for those who read my "running bad" thread, I think I can safely say my slump is over... ;) )

I haven't tried Brantford (might go there tonight...) but from what I've read/heard, their 5/10 game is also very loose/passive.

I think wherever you decide to go, if you play a good tight/aggressive game, you can clean up at the low limit games.

    hork.

There, or at Woodbine Racetrack/Slots. Close to the airport, easily accessible from most of Toronto... I've always thought that a poker room there would do wonderfully.

    hork.
  • I went to brantford casino and played 2/5 for the first time. Loose passive was pretty much the only thing on the menu. I started to get loose my self, and lost to a higher flush (a 9high beat my 8high). That was my own fault though, something I should have definately avoided. Live And Learn! Next time i went, i played at the 5/10. A lot of loose aggr - i found, both times. Lots of average ( i say that LOOSELY) players. They bring in their sunglasses and rings, and throw chips in like they are Sam Farha or somebody big.

I'd lke to hit Rama next, see their games. Seneca Casino, now that's across the border? or in Canada. I really like the idea of a 3/6 and 4/8 game.

Only thing about brantford its kinda ghetto......

Yes. It's on the OTHER SIDE.

But it's right there.. you could LITERALLY walk there from the border.

    hork.
  • In terms of how 'easy' the game is i would put it this way.

    1. Seneca 2/5 on the US side of Niagara
    2. Brantford
    3. Rama
    4. Port Perry

That covers the ones that i've been to.

Ya go to Rama the 2/5 is just like bingo!!!

I cant stand playing 2/5 there, no one knows when to fold. Everyone takes the flop. I rather play 5/10.

Best poker room, I think is the GBH
  • On a different note, how do you define "best"? Is it best for making coin, or best because of the style of play? From the sounds of things, most of the 2/5 games are populated by calling stations, which can lead to a lot of suck-outs, dropping the quality of the game for a 'skilled' player, and reducing his/her profits. So which are we going for, folks?

    I disagree.
Lots of calling stations = lots of mistakes.

Capitalize on the mistakes. That's where the application of skill comes into play.

I don't think this would reduce the profits of a skilled player, although it would increase the variance.

Yes, there will be some losing nights, however the potential for a VERY BIG NIGHT is there.

  • Okay, you caught me on the language. I simply meant the potential that these overly loose players might have to put one on tilt, due to their inordinate number of winns with bad play. And yes, I agree, part of being a good player is fighting through that, but sometimes it's easier said than done.
  • With the rake being the same in a 2/5 game as it would be in a 10/20. 3/6 i think is the lowest limit that you should play and be able to beat the rake.
  • No offense meant to the low limit players, but if you want to be a player in Ontario live casinos you have to move up to 10-20. The rake is too much of a killer in the smaller games. The rake at Brantford is $5 a hand in 5-10 or under and the time session of $5 per half hour in 10-20 works out to about 3-4 per hour usually. It isn't hard to do the math.As for where to play, all the locations in Ontario are good as the players in general range from average to horrible with a small percentage of good or great players. knowing this you should play at the games with the best rake and never, never, never play in the fair games with their $7.50 rake on 5-10 and $10 rake on 10-20. Wherever you play, good luck.
  • Oops, I meant $3-4 per hand in the 10-20 games with the $5 time session. Sorry for the miscue lol.
  • While moving up to 10-20 is certainly good advice in terms of the house drop, my experience is that the Ontario 5-10 (with the $5 max rake, *not* the $7.50) is still beatable by very good players. However, I'd be much more inclined to call the 2-5 game unbeatable in terms of the rake.

  • Sorry for the question, still new to casino games. What's the rake and house drop?
  • $2/$5 with 10 good players would be unbeatable because of the rake, but from what I've seen (3 sessions at brantford playing 2/5) any good player can make money consistently here. I've heard the 5/10 isn't as bad, but still is very loose. I'm going to try it next time...
  • I'd say the 2/5 games that I play at Rama are certainly beatable. Yes, the rake is hefty, but the bad play more than makes up for it.

There are so many extra bets in each pot. As long as you don't mind a little variance (you *are* going to get sucked out on), a good player could win money there consistently.

    hork.
