Another Live MTT question....

First hand of the tournament A10 5 limpers before me, I limp, sb calls bb checks, cheap flop if I hit I'm happy... last time I played there it was CRAZY bets and bets so I want to be carefull with a not-so-strong-hand with almost a full table.

Flop :

AA10 rainbow ...

I'm like Wheep! everybody checks to me last to talk, I'm like ok... last week people called anything so I bet and everyone folds.

Question is... should I check there ? I mean unless someone has AJ-Q-K or a 10 he's not gonna call no matter what comes later, right?

  • NO you should not bet here;

Simple point is no one has anything to call you with, you have an A and a T.
That leaves just 2 cards of the whole deck that anyone is going to call you with legitimately.

What your hoping is that another card comes K, Q, J... then you might get paid. Even maybe the two suit is going to help pay you.

HOWEVER - betting half the pot here can be good advertising. If you don't get a caller make sure you show this hand so that people know that your continuation bets are solid.
  • kindadepends how deep starting stacks are. If they're deep at all I'm betting big to try to bust someone slowplaying the case ace. if you only start with 50xBb or something then sure slowplaying is prboably good
  • Stacks starts at 10k blinds at 100/200

I still made a decent amount of money on the hand but it felt like a waste... I busted out fairly early (20th out of 68) and I feel that is cuz I didn't receive any action on all my good hands (kings twice everyone folded my raise pre-flop and this one.

I did show my card after I bet and everyone folded ...

...And then he wonders why he doesn't get action on his big hands!!!
  • Well I have a hard time deciding which hand I should show and which I shouldn't...

If Ishow a strong hand at the beginning I'll get respect for my futur raise... right?
In a way isn't that what you want?

Should you show a bluff a bit later to show you can do both?

I'm more used to play online and I feel live is so different that I make some really weird plays sometimes...

The quick answer is the ones that get called on the river.
  • I'd like to know why you'd NEVER show any hand except those that gets to showdown ?
  • Keep everyone guessing. If they caught a tell on your or suspected a hand on bet pattern and you confirmed it they are at an advantage.

That being said I will occassionaly show a bluff if I am getting too tight an image at the table.

No dough, no show. Simple. Don't help them by confirming their reads.
  • i might show a bluff if im in a hand with a loud mouth know it all type..i did it once in Brantford..the guy pounded his fist on the table and then went on tilt and then was eliminated within 4 or5 hands..that was just as satisfying as winning the original hand earlier..lol
  • gotcha... not sure why I did it I never do it online... maybe the stress and inexperience of live play.
  • For me, I'm never for showing cards, both live and online. Regardless if I'm at Niagara, Rama or sitting down @ PokerRoom, UB, FTP, etc...I just don't like giving away free information. Like was just said "no dough, no show". People ask me to show, I just respond: "Pay to see 'em". I just try to make sure my tone doesn't seem like I'm a total jerk so that the table will be gunning for me.

Even if it's for misleading purposes or to show that I can switch it up and that I have different clubs in my bag, I think that any information that you do give, one way or another is just more data that someone else can process over time and then make calculated decisions when he/she is in a hand with you.

The only time I'd even consider showing cards when I'm playing with family and close friends in our usual bingo-style shootout tourneys just for fun. Other than that, not really gonna happen. It may work for others to show at certain points, but I don't think it's worth it when playing against other people when you're seriously trying to take their money.
