river rock madness

at 3;45 i came out of the elevator and it was packed
i would have had 2 b a bulldozer 2 get through 2 the desk
they could have doubled-up the limit and still sold out
in other words, if u were not playing 2 get in on the early bird sing up deal, u did not have a chance at getting in
oh well

  • I didn't see you there or would have said hello. I arrived about the sametime and was suprised to see it full. I was under the impression from when I talked to them that registration didn't open until 4:00. No big deal if they opened it early for some, I just wish they would have told me that before I made the 2 hour drive round trip and lost 3 hours of work.
  • yes
    i looked 4 peeps i might recognize
    yes
    we could have chatted
i know what u mean bout the sign up fiasco
what a waste of a trip, eh

  • from the beginning, river rock had advertised a 3:30 signup for live players...i think they were surprised that *so* many live players signed up...apparently only one person in line got a ticket

Thats all fine and good but when I called an noon to find out what time Registration was this wasn't mentioned to me. I don't have a problem with them opening it early and it filling, my problems with them telling me Registration starts at 4:00 (4 hours before the fact) when it was starting earlier. All it would have taken was telling me it was opening earlier and showing up before 4:00 won't neccesarily get you a spot and I'd have nothing to bitch about. I heard about the tounrey through a friend this is why I called to confirm what time registration started, I knew nothing of a 3:30 registration.
  • River rock screwed it all up in my opinion. I didnt get a chance to play either, and I showed up at the casino at 2 30. Had no hope even then. I did hang around untill 4 though hoping to hit my one outer, and chatted with some folk i met down at the wsop from van. So i did witness the one ticket give away.

What is insulting to me is how the mngment proceeded to make everyone line up like a bunch of dumb lemmings in 2 lines that ultimatly served 0 purpose, as one fella got a ticket.

management should have told everyone to go home, as they had no chance to play. It was also lame how the floor manager doesnt have the balls or authority to add a few tables and make it 11 handed.

Oh well, it was the first time, hopefully they only get better. The amount of hopelessly dead money i saw was truly astounding. How good could someone be that sees 150 people in front of him/her in a line for a 110 person tourney, and still lines up?

    hg :canada:
  • we did play 11 handed...

and if its any consolation to quasi, even if 0 live players had signed up, there were enough people in line by 2:15 to prevent you from getting in anyways...

it was the first time they ran a tourney, i don't think the casino expected nearly so many live players to sign up (i still cant believe only one person in line got a ticket)....i think a lot of people bought in just to try it out....if the casino had known, they woulda told people to leave earlier.......but its a first come, first serve tournament, you take what you get

It is likely that this is out of their hands. The license was almost certainly very specific.

The good news (I hope) is that tournament poker is off the ground in BC. It didn't come without come hiccups, but at least the road is now being travelled. And that is thanks to River Rock's efforts.
  • Fair enough, like I said the tournament filling up wasn't a big deal. I was only peeved because when I called they never informed me people would be allowed to signup earlier, if they had I wouldn't have gotten off work early and made the trip out to Richmond.
  • good point about tournament r finally here
    i heard 1 a month
    now 4 suggestions
    b ready 4 next madness
make sure all who want...can enter
fill that floor up with tables
    even that entrance
get rid of the machines and make ev'ry 1 happy
have lots of room 4 the mania
  • cool, i didnt know it was 11 handed. Thanks for correcting me. I actually recall being told that at the casino.. I just forgot :club:

My point is not that a poker tourny is bad, nor did staff to a horrendous job organizing it.

Im not out to say river rock people are idiots and subvert the work they have done...
My main problem is the communication between the room and its players, and the room and its staff.
There are already players and therefore will be tables and dealers and a rake, those are the motions... but what makes a great room is so much more.

I think it is awesome that bc has finally kicked something off.
I just wish it was me the gov't issued tourney licenses too.

I support the Rock 100%, and hope it blossoms into something kick ass.

  • So I ended up comming 7th out of the 110 people. Got knocked out by the blinds and going all-in with 78 and losing to pocket 4's. Oh well, that happends. Top 10 got paid and I was paid $545. Pretty small ammount :(

    See you guys in Edmonton
  • well done royal
    did better than me
i did not even get 2 enter because of the small time thinking
how can they not think big
    there is mania full-bore 4 hold'em
    but noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
not in small time thinking vancouver
let us do a small limit tourney
    that just shut-out a hell-of-a-lot of players
    pissed-off many 1st time visitors
    but.......oh well
what do u expect from a city that has a 3 lane bridge
