Dealer school in Brantford

The school from Thunderbay (Casino Training academy?) is opening a course in Brantford.

My Mom received an e-mail from this morning, I can't remember who was asking about this recently, but I'll ship the link when I get it.

  • sounds like a new casino coming; re: all the recent busts
  • I'd love to learn more about this when you get the info thanks!
  • Unfortunately, the Liberal government has clearly stated that there will be no new casinos in Ontario for the foreseeable future. There was a study that concluded that a new casino such as at Woodbine will simply take away business from the existing casinos and jeopardize their viability. Unless there is political pressure to open a Toronto casino or to license poker events like other provinces by the next election, nothing will change. Four years from now, the Illegal Gambling Unit will still be doing their job of enforcing the Criminal Code and busting raked clubs unless poker is given a legal exception.

Of course there will be no new casino in the Toronto area, if they opened one at Woodbine then there would be no need for people to drive out to Niagara or Rama

(I don't know if the site is Brantford specific yet, but at least you know who to get in touch with)
  • just curious, what do they charge for the course?
  • is there any use?
i hear from many people that dealer is most fight position in casino.
even if you get a license, what are the chance of finding a job as a dealer

It seems to be intentionally omitted from the website, but I have heard a similar course costing thousands of dollars. The CNE Casino uses some of the same instructors and has a subsidized fee of only $150 with a guaranteed job offer if you pass a table test. I think for currently licensed dealers like myself, they won't even charge anything if we want to learn additional games.
  • I'm wondering if I have to got through the school or if I could just go for a table test and then skip all of that (including the fee of course!) I've been dealing for over a couple of years now. I haven't dealt in a casino before, as I don't look forward to the 1.5 hr drive to Niagara or Rama or the 1hr drive to Blue Heron. Yet, I learned from my uncle who used to deal back in the old Charity Casino/Casino Services days and we have our own little family business that goes around dealing stags and private events in addition to mostly being sub-contracted out by other gaming companies for events such as corporate parties.

I know that it isn't the real thing, but I've gotten a lot of practice and my pitch has really developed, especially in the last year or so. I'm just curious if there's like an even quicker crash-course just to be familiar w/ casino protocol and procedure as opposed to the whole learn how to deal thing.

I'm done university in the end of August and am thinking about the possibility of picking up a part-time job as a dealer, but at this point not too sure.
