quitting smoking is for chumps

ok, so I suffered through one day of nothing and cracked and bought the patch today. Now how do I get off the patch?

actually I just want to check in and see how reddington is doing with our last longer bet?

  • Played cards with him tonight. He didn't smoke at all but he set a record for most pretzels eaten in one sitting.
  • damn...errr... I mean good for him!

I believe the new pretzel record. I'm on my 6th pack of gum in 48 hrs.

Its amazing how strong the desire to perform the act of smoking is. Even for me with the nicotine taken care of.
  • Hang in there, both of you...its a filthy habit and one I would love to get rid of myself. The patch only controls the nicotine in your system, its the other habits associated with the act of smoking that you are reacting to.

Trying finding other things to do with your hands ;) Actually, last time I quit, I drank ALOT of water all the time. Seemed to work.

15 years and counting; best way to quit, stay away from family and friends that smoke; if your partner smokes, your doomed. Might have to cut back on the beer as well because we know beer+smokes = heaven!

SHHHHHHHH! I live with TWO chain-smokers. Positivity please!
  • lol Kristy get rid of the chain smokers... :) Good luck with the nonsmoking..
Ill be next on the list of that one.
  • get a bumch of packs of popeye cigarettes so when you around people that are smoking you can break them out and go through the same motion. You may need to visit a dentist more but it worked for a couple friends of mine.
  • good luck with that oral fixation.
  • So it is monday Morning and I am razzled.

I suffered through 3 business meetings with complete nits that arent fit to run a street meat cart, then alone be a VP of a billion dollar multi national manufactoring firm.
I'm sorry, but your dogs bowel problem is a bullshit reason for a three month launch delay.

    Serenty now......

Then Friday nights game is were smoke is included. 12 minute levels, self dealt and ten players... 7 smokers - 3 non. Oh you called full pot bets for a flush draw, it hit on the river. Im down to 30% stack, thank god for a bowl of pretzels.

    Serenty now.....

Saturday was Seneca. So when the dealer told me you get cash prizes for the sit-n-go, he really meant I get a voucher for the cash prize and a special kick in the nutz from the IRS. Add that to the donkfest that is 1-2 no limit. Up to 3x buy in, down to 4 more buy ins, back up to 8x buy in at least I finished at 5+ buy ins. A rollercoaster ride for sure. After a 8 hour session, up $38US, including a SnG win minus my taxes.

Enough for a carton of american smokes, some cheap liquor to help me get my serenty. oh shit Shopsys here and I have a last longer with Kirsty...

    fucken pride....

    Serent Now... Insanity later

5 hard days an counting.... How you doing Kristy?
  • I'm still not used to not smoking. I cracked and bought the patch day one after I burst into tears because the coffee pot was taking too long.

The patch helped a bit...but I've been a smoker longer than I wasn't so stopping the behaviour is really throwing me off-I've been that way ever since. I really do almost hear that "smoke, smoke, smoke" chant. I'm chewing gum like a fiend (seriously I've cleaned out two stores of my particular brand)

I came down with a nasty cough on day two, which I've had ever since. (I think my lungs are confused by the fresh air.) AND I've alienated the smokers around me because I'm not spending as much time as them, AND I was very aggressive with at least one person who didn't deserve it....

and this is all with a reasonable amount of nicotine still in my system?!?!

I bet I kill someone when I go off the patch in a few weeks.
  • Have a cig you know you want one...the smoke feels that much better after a few days off the habit
  • I say nay, I want to live longer and enjoy people like you.

Keep at it!! You can do it, the air is so much cleaner over here!!!
  • So I guess another bounty on you is a bad idea? I don't want to see anybody else kneed in the pills when you are knicking for a smoke! Oh wait....maybe I do, as long as it's not me :)

    Keep it up Kristy!
  • Can we get an update as to how things are going? I've been thinking of you guys when I see the huddled masses out side the Brantford Casino smokin' away. Just wondering how you are doing?
  • Quitting was the hardest thing i've ever done. I could go through 3 packs in a 7 hour card session and not even think twice about it.

Been smoke free for almost 2 years, i dont even think about it anymore.

It was rough, I was on the patch, zyban and gum all at once. @ one point, I was at a red light, I licked the patch on my forearm to try and get some 'juice' from it.

    Great...and horrible.

I made it through a Bristol but donked off all my chips. Same thing at a home game I play where everyone smokes. It was HARD! Not to mention all the old anchors I have at work, every meeting where someone is bitching I am expected to go out with the 'smoking' crew and be a sound board or voice of reason.

However, I think I turned the corner at the Casino. Because I am alot more focused on the game AND the last longer bet has helped me out huge.

So, I have been bitchy and donkeyish... In the long run I should be ok.

Hard part will be the 6 hour drive to Turning Stone.

    How is Christy doing?
  • I know nobody has mentioned it yet, but that Alan Carr's easy way to quit smoking has some interesting ideas.

    1. You don't like smoking...you tell yourself you do....but you don't, and why would you...it kills you, it smells fucking awful, and it costs a boatload of money.

    2. Quitting is not painful.....you tell yourself it is, but it's not. Getting kneed in the bits is painful, quitting smoking is not.

    3. You never see a non smoker reach for a pack when they are stressed...does this mean they don't get stressed....of course not. It just means smokers are great at bullshitting themselves.

    4. I think this one is important to. You need to always remind yourself that you are a non smoker. You are not trying to quit.....that is negative.......you guys DO NOT SMOKE.....there is a very important distinction there.

by the by, Reddington, do you live in Vancouver? I won't get into how I think Marc Emery is a Douche, but will ask instead if you are aware of any home games that might be good to get into.

    Cheers
