I just saw this on TV this morning.

Anyone have any details?

  • what major intersection? this is getting to be a little too much.
  • The club is located at 1126 Finch Avenue West near Dufferin Street, the Thornhill Social Club. Here's a link to the news story.

  • 61 people! the cops must have made some serious coin off of this one...
  • What were they running there? Thats a lot of people.

More waste of tax payers money?

"police from across southwestern Ontario and Ottawa"
  • i'm curious as to the motive for this sudden and dramatic crackdown on underground clubs. the fact they are charging the patrons now as well, tells me they are desperate to stamp these out quickly. how long before they go after the bigger home games?

new casino(s) coming to ontario, anyone? toronto? kw? london?

i've pretty much given up on the clubs now. f niagara. it looks like there is a lot more seneca in my future. roadtrip yo?
  • Was this place also known "Sam's"? Or is Sam's another club in the same area?

Was gonna try out the place because some friends said the action was great. Might reconsider now.....
  • same place that got robbed at gunpoint last year; thought they would have learned their lesson. At least they could have changed the name of the place.

Some of the KW boys (and girls maybe!) are heading to Seneca for Marios 30th Birthday.

    You in?
  • That is one of several other clubs in the area. While it was mostly the suburban police forces that were raiding clubs, it now looks like the Toronto police has joined the witchhunt to wipe out every single "drug-dealing, organized criminal" poker player in Ontario who doesn't play in a government casino!

I was just about to play a lot more at the Toronto clubs even though some of them allow smoking inside :rage: since there are so few good poker games in Ontario casinos. With the health risk added to the risk of getting of getting charged by "60 heavily armed" police, I will more likely head for the border to Seneca Casino. Aside from Itsame's birthday trip on December 22, when is the first forum road trip to Seneca? :)

don't count out Rama either; lots of 1/2 NLH and the rake is decent. Also avoid the border lines which can add a lot of time to the trip.

No worries, Mark called dibs on that job immediately.
  • have any of the clubs been busted on a weekend? not sure if a warrant is required so these typically occur M to F. Maybe there is too much other activity going on during the weekend to keep the police busy.

You mean like actual crime. Good point.

  • There used to be quite a few poker clubs in the Duffern and Finch area. I knew of 3 of them. Are any of them still in operation?

Woodbridge seems to be the hot bed now.
  • I wouldn't play at the woodbridge clubs, especially the high limit games
  • hope they dont come to my home game lol!

Someone else has heard of the infamous high limit games in Woodbridge.

Yes I can confirm Woodbrige is a hot bed for the bigger games. Lowest stakes Ive seen was a 5-10 NL and biggest was a 25-50 NL.

there is some 1/2 and 2/5 at the odd club; I have heard stories of some NL tables where the minimum buy-in is $2k with no limit (real no limit holdem) and the players are maniacs because money is no object.
  • Am I misreading, or does there seem to be some sort of innuendo as to how these Woodbridge games are organized?
  • I had a friend that was dealing at one of these woodbridge clubs and he told me some real sick stories of how much cash changes hands in an evening. Long story short its all about if you can get on the "sheet" and how big your balls are in these crazy high stakes games.
  • Drugs and crime, yes.

Games often shut-down with sheets of 200-300k being owed. Cash players often cannot get paid.

    Avoid.

Thats similar to what I heard from my dealer buddy. Thats some serious cash on the tables eh.
  • Are you serious?! I've been to a couple of Woodbridge clubs, and keep getting invited to go to others. I have heard of unwinnably high raking and badly structured tournaments, but I didn't know it is much worse.
